Pathe are set to release a Marcel Pagnol boxset that will include the beloved Jean de florette and Manon des sources on December 3 in France. Unfortunately, the preliminary info for the set indicates lack of English subtitles.

Great movies! Will definitely pick these up if there are english subs & region-free. Too bad they probably won't be though...

I just need the English subtitles. There are enough great region 2 Blus that it is worth getting a player for them. I have been hoping for more Emmanuelle Beart movies on blu-ray, and these two films are just wonderful. Perhaps Nathalie will eventually hit Blu as well.

Just saw Nathalie a few months ago. What a great film. Emmauelle Beart was brilliant. I would love to see this on Blu-ray too...

I don't know about Nathalie... coming to Blu-ray but 8 femmes is closer than you think

Any news on these films? On Amazon France it says that it has sous-titres only en Francais, which is pretty lame for those of us who cannot understand French fluently enough to follow a French film without subtitles.

If these were region free with English subtitles, I'd absolutely purchase them. I mean, how hard can it be to throw on some English subs and not region code it?

I don't have these discs yet but all of the preliminary info I have seen thus far points to lack of English subtitles. Also, their lack is justified by region-rights.

I have them and they say region ABC on the box and disc but wont play in my US Panasonic DMP-BD35.

Well I purchased a LG BH200 and Jean de Florette and Manon des Sources did NOT play prior to region hack. Now that I have done the region hack they work fine.

There are only french subtitles on the two movies so not english friendly.

I have bought the discs on Amazon.fr and the back of the disc says region A, B and C but discs but wont play in my Canadian/US Panasonic DMP-BD55 with firmware 1.6.

The player reconized and starts reading disc, then screen blanks, display in front of player starts at 0 to 5 seconds then players hangs.

I will try the disc in a few days on a PS3 and in Sony 350

Both "La Gloire de mon Père" and "Le Chateau de ma Mère" work beautifully. no problem.

No, no, it was most definitely in the "coming soon" column -- I keep a very close eye on what is being planned for release in France/Monaco. Why it has not been announced so far, I have absolutely no idea.

This being said, the French market is quite unpredictable. I posted a number of titles from Fox in late March/April that were set to arrive this Summer (Road to Perdition, Rain Man, etc), I even had specs for them, yet they never did, even though Fox never canceled them officially.

I can only post what the studios dispatch to a few of the French PR houses, whether or not they follow up on their announcements, that's an entirely different matter.

The Gallic market has always been like this - unpredictable - even when I was covering its DVD releases on another forum.

Was this ever confirmed if it was English friendly? These are two films I've wanted to see on Blu for a long time but are we still waiting for an English friendly release?
