Unhappy Ranking Member Galleries

Some newbie, with no posts in the forum and no pictures in his gallery, just rated my theater gallery a 2!

Now I don't lose any sleep at night if others don't like my setup. I'm happy with it, and that's all that matters. However, I do think the rating system is useful and fun when you are wanting to see what others have done.

Is there any way to make changes to the rating system so only members with a certain # of posts in the forum (or at least have some pictures in their own gallery) can rate other's galleries?

Thanks for taking this into consideration.

You could always turn off voting in your gallery.

I like the voting... I just think the way it's implemented could be improved.

Yes it does... I too like the whole voting thing, but the way some members act here... If I remember right I think it was you who was saying that people are actually creating other accounts to vote other people's theaters down so theirs can be higher.

Now, I know my theater isn't perfect (look at some of the highest rated ones, those guys have KILLER theaters) but when someone is giving you like a .5... that's pretty messed up.

I'd ALMOST like to see them make it so that only those who have a gallery.... can rate a gallery. Whenever someone ranks me lower than I like to think I deserve, I try to look at there set-up so I can get an idea of the standard they might be judging me by...... and invariably...... they haven't shared their gallery.

LOL at 10 days in throwing the noob label at others.

That said, I see what you are saying. When you are open to voting you get the good with the bad.

I myself don't lose sleep over what others think about my setup. I love my setup and I know it's nowhere near a perfect set-up.

I am in noway an audiophile/videophile or a home theater enthusiast, but proud of my setup. Sometimes I think I over did it and then other times I feel I should and will do more.

I am curious as to what you think your own score should have been?

Also why would you complain about how someone score yours and then you give others a low rating? Did that person piss you off so you take it out on others? or can you note why you give a low score?

I can note why I give people lower scores. There's tons of reasons. Such as some people have like 26" TV that they're sitting 10' away from, their speakers aren't set up properly, the room is cluttered... lots of things like that.

I'm probably the nicest rater out there - I rate based on a few principles: 1 - Do the best with what they can. I'm not going to compare setups like Brain Sturgeon's with say, JasonRs. I rate based on what they can do with what they have on hand. They are both 10 and a 9 in my book! I rarely give under a 8! A college student cannot do what a seasoned veteran can.

The ONLY reason I will EVER give low ratings is clutter. I HATE clutter. I'm not talking about simple wire mess - I'm talking about a disorganized mess!

It is what it is for now, report it and we will take care of it. We have been keeping a watchful eye on it though.

I agree 100% with both of you...

I guess my thing is, why would you do something and complain when someone does it to you?

The person who is complaining about a 2 is giving out 3's. What is that all about!

I am not asking for that. Whatever score I get I want it to stay, just wish that person would explain why.

Well, the thing I am asking to be reported is new members lowballing (there are reasons behind this). I think if a regular member lowballs you and explains it, it should stick unless it was done by accident.

Really? Is there sometype of contest going on that I havn't heard about?

I really hope these are not silly little games. Are they trying to hurt someone's feelings? or what?

You can PM if you want

We just don't want it to turn into some kind of contest, it is not what it is about. We want people to show off their theaters and have other members give constructive feedback, nothing more nothing less.

I think it is just in some peoples nature, like Tense for example, to just rate people really harshly. I try like JJ said to make sure that I rate most folks about 7-9 cause I think people are trying their best, and if I really don't like something I wont rate it. Besides, everyones home is so different.

OP, just ignore the childish high school mentality some of the poster have.

Perfect!! and that's all I want myself!!

I have learned so much from this site and looking at the pics from the gallery puts so much in perspective view.

I feel there is no need for anyone to be nasty about it all..
