Default PS3 Bluray Stutter

I have an 80GB (if that matters) PS3 with my 52" Samsung LNT5271F tv. I have one small issue that is kindof annoying and hard to pin point.

During movie playback (not all the times) the blu ray will stutter or go slow motion. This is when I have my 120hertz Automotion on, whether its on LOW, MEDIUM or HIGH.

What would cause this random stutter, it doesnt happen in the same spot in the disk so that makes me think its not the disk. It cant be the TV cause the TV has a feature called GAME MODE which sets the right AUTO MOTION for you. So all eveidence traces back to the PS3.

I did though get my PS fixed from Sony (for another issue & this issue) and I am running with the latest software update. So I am at a lost now.

Anyone else experience this issue what has made it go away?

I LOVE watching blurays with my AUTO MOTION either on HIGH or MEDIUM cause it makes them look soooo 3dish!! lol

Any help please

Thanks

Rich

I had the exact same problem.

Take off 1080p 24hz under the blu ray settings in the PS3.

Although my TV was only 720p, after I shut off that setting, I never had that problem ever again.

I have the EXACT same model SAMSUNG & noticed something along the same issue you described, though not sure if what I saw could be classified as a "stutter.".......

I was watching The Dark Knight BRD on my PS3 just last night with the 120hz setting on High, and noticed during the camera pans what I would call a certain wave effect (not a blur) around objects or characters. In honesty it's nothing that would totally cripple my HD movie experience, but because it is "Blu-Ray 1080P" and I'm actually watching with a keen eye for any imperfections (hoping of course that I don't see any), I caught it almost from the opening scene. I also tried lowering the 120hz settings, but still noticed it. Is the imperfection I saw what you guys call "BR Stutter?"

Moments like last night is when I start to (ever so slightly) second guess my choice & investment. Then I start to think that perhaps a dedicated Blu-Ray player will make a difference... Any suggestions?

So by doing this your allowing the TV to completely handle the 120 hertz and not the PS3?

@DNYCE
its either considered "sutter" or "slow motion"

go into the menu and turn to off under 120 Hz. the tv is native 120 Hz. this will turn off what's referred to as AMP on this set which interpolates (guesses) at intermediate frames to fill in. with this set to off and the ps3 set to 1080p 24Hz, you then get the 5:5 pulldown and the best picture possible.

1) Don't use Game Mode to watch movies. Remember to switch.

2) Turn OFF any motion enhancer feature on your TV. Also turn off DNIE and MPEG2/NR feature.

I believe that it does not force the TV to play in 24Hz.
I could be wrong though.

Did you try it? And did it solve the problem?

I did do exactly what you told me and put in Pirate 3 which had the small issue...

I put it to the part where I saw it before and nothing this time... but again this problem doesnt happen in the same spot on the disk... it just depends... but for now I am ok with it..

What exactly does that PS3 setting mean?

definitely a TV problem. check avsforums and their million page thread on the Samsung xx71F series lcd tv's. i had a 4671f and things always stuttered with AMP on. with it off things were perfect. basically it was a special feature of that tv that was usable because it gave bad results. BELIEVE me this is not a ps3 problem. try watching a regular DVD on a DVD player with AMP turned on High,Medium, whatever and you still get stuttering.

its amazing that you can handle a full movie with automotion plus on. i get dizzy and get fed up real quick. it makes green screen scenes so obvious its not even funny. but to each their own if you like your movies to look like a soap opera more power to you.

I buy decent quality cables and match up my brands. I wouldn't play a PS3 on anything but a Sony TV. So far no problems. EVER!

that has the be the most craziest comment i've heard. there are millions of ps3 owners worldwide that don't use Sony televisions or "match up brands". are they more prone to problems or something? where did you read this? talk about brandwh0ring. you must use sony brand hdmi cables and possibly sony brand AA batteries for all the sony brand remotes you have. wow just wow.

I can pretty much guarantee you this is the setting issue suggested to you. Let us know the results once you've confirmed.

well I shut off the PS3 refresh thing and only let the TV have the auto motion and noticed the stutter did happen a couple of times and that even on medium some images just dont look that crisp, like they should.

Not sure what to do now

we have been over this. turn off automotion = no stutter. it has nothing to do with ps3 settings. i had that tv, been through this. turning off AMP will end all your issues and let you enjoy blurays how they were meant to be. oh by the way turn back on 24hz on your ps3. you want that, its a good thing.

The logic applied here is really interesting and very flawed. Occasionally, conflicts happen, but everyone builds gear based on industry standards that are in place, such as is the case for HDMI and Blu-ray specs. Manufacturers may excel at one thing, such as TVs, while they stumble on players. Also, manufacturers commonly share suppliers for major pieces such as LCD panels, disc transports, HDMI inputs, and circuit boards.

it may be a case of denial. he said he really likes the soap opera 3D looking motion enhancement feature and refuses to accept that it is the root of all his stutter problems.
