That makes even less sense. The size of your room has no effect on the size of other objects in that room. You are probably laboring under the misapprehension that projectors MUST create hundred inch or larger screens.

You're right! I don't know where I was googling before but I'm relieved that I can afford to stick a few bulbs in the closet.

I will look into this projector, thanks for the info. How was the 3d with it?

The 3D is amazing, even better than the cinema.

I think all projectors are active, mine certainly is.

Optoma projectors are really good and cheap as well.

There were other models that were in a single projector body, but don't know what they cost, I've not seen them advertised in awhile. They other problem is they typically require a special screen and are generally trickier to set up.

DepthQ offers a passive 3-D single-projector bundle; but it's pricey at $4900.

Larger the picture. The Better the 3D effect! Yes you have to calculate room size to position where the projector and screen will display at its best. Now, if using short throw projectors, though room size isn't a problem, you have to make other calculations.

Yes, but that is beside the point. Unless your area is the size of a bathroom, this shouldn't be that hard. My projector is 12 feet away from my screen and it's huge (the image is taller than me). I can adjust to a much smaller screen even from that distance and I can move the projector closer or mount it on the ceiling if it got in the way, for smaller screens.

I have little hope.. but things like 3 more Avatar movies coming.. and more Star-Wars... might be enough... but i feel like i'm grasping at straws here.

One thing that does hearten me is that there are 1000's upon 1000's of 3D 4k TV's out there already and so many people have a TV with 3D that they will not have to replace for 10 years or so. (assuming that 8k will be a tough very sell in the next 8-12 years)

That being said I will be buying an LG 75in 4K this year with hopes that the blu-rays keep getting released. And will be getting a 3D 4K projector as well.
Projectors are a welcome but expensive 3D option, yes. For those concerned their display will stop working soon, buy another 3DTV now and store it in a cool, dry place.

Keeping in mind, as others suggested, the market often keeps vintage items in supply for decades. You can still visit ebay and find an 8 track player, cassette player, VHS player. Besides, there could be an independent manufacturer/inventor who sees the demand for 3DTVs, and decides to offer a custom technology, like entrepreneur's often do on kickstarter or indiegogo.

Did the manufacturers detect a general saturation point of 3D fans worldwide and see that 3DTV sales leveled off, so no need to make more at this time till the demand increases more?

The question is, why have blu ray 3Ds continued this long, over 6 years now, if there was no market for it?

All of us blu ray 3D fans are the ones who have sustained the blu ray 3D market this far, since about 2010. We continue to buy blu ray 3D discs monthly, while in contrast, we don't need to buy a 3DTV monthly or even yearly. Like a radio, a 3DTV is meant to last for years.

1 great 3D trend restarted in 2016. Disney began supporting blu ray 3D again, including Zootopia 3D, Jungle Book 3D, and Lucasfilm's Star Wars Force Awakens 3D. Why would they do that? Because 3D fans demanded it. Many of us wrote to Disney to let them know to support blu ray 3D again. Customer feedback is important in a customer driven retail market.

So rather than predicting doom which can potentially turn new fans away from home 3D ("oh, it's over, well then why bother?"), let's continue to buy and support blu ray 3Ds as we have been. Less talk about the end, and more talk about letting distributors and movie studios know we want their new 3D movie releases on blu ray 3D, now and for years ahead.

We can also focus our energy on continuing to write to Sony and other receptive manufacturers, letting them kindly know that we want a 3D TV option to return as soon as possible.
Best to write directly to those in charge. Remembering Sony's 3D World, and their big push to promote home 3D.
http://www.sony.com/en_us/SCA/contacts/overview.html

Even a simple sentence like, "Make 3DTV's again" is better than nothing.

If you use a short throw projector does the wall it displays the image on have to be painted with a special paint to look good? I have a friend with a projector and it didn't look very good PQ.

I'd encourage using fabric for a screen over using a wall. If you don't want to buy a screen you can build one cheaply.

This video kind of crudely shows the difference:

I'd recommend one of these screens. They cost less than a hundred and will be way better than shooting on a wall/cloth. For $80 at 100" it's not bad. I had one of these and really liked it before moving up to a 120".
