Thanks
Should be able to watch the DV version off of the Vudu app on your LG OLED, though it might depend on how you redeem the code. I got the UHD version of Furious 7 on Vudu by redeeming the code directly on the Vudu website.

So in going the route you did, when you say you got the UHD version, does it actually play in DV as opppsoed to HDR?

Thanks!

I own several dozen UHD titles on Vudu and as far as I know every single of them plays in Dolby Vision. And if you look at the Vudu page for F8 it does have the Dolby Vision logo.

Watched it last night in DV and was completely blown away watching on my Oppo 203 player and LG TV. Mentioned this in the recently watched in your home theater thread that the colors in the bright scenes in the cities for Cuba, NYC, and Russia were all gorgeous. Certain scenes almost looked like they were in 3D (which my TV has also) there was so much detail. Wish I waited for the Amazon deal a little bit ago, but for you DV 4K fans out there this is sure one to add to your collection. It'll prob be my go to reference disc in the future. To hear Furious 7 looks better then this, has me tempting to double dip. Must resist.

Default Dts:x

I have owned the UK 4K blu-ray since release but I have just upgrade to an Atmos/DTS:X receiver and have the Onkyo SKH-410 upfiring speakers.

In order to test out my new kit, I have been disabling all but the upfiring speakers and testing with discs to get a feel for overhead audio, and I have been really impressed with all but this disk.

I tried the blu-ray in my PS4 and 4K in my Xbox and both playback the DTS:X track but I am simply not hearing any overhead audio.

Only at the very end with the sub did I notice 2 scenes that used the overhead speakers, the lambo falling under the water and one scene underwater with the cars going overhead but obvious scenes had none.

My receiver says it is DTS:X, many other DTS:X disks I have tried have awesome overhead audio but reading the reviews of this disk I was expecting sonic heaven as they all refer specifically to the overhead audio, but I am hearing none.

Can anyone offer their experience and confirm if I am indeed missing something. As I say I have tried other disks and definitely experience the overhead so I am confident it's not how I have set it up.

God I hated this movie. I liked the older ones, but they just keep getting more and more rediculous. I imagine in the next one, all our street rat heroes head up to the international space station and drive their muscle cars around, somehow saving humanity.

Im curious because my cousin shares the sentiment..
Why do you keep watching??? Not trying to be snide. I too was bothered at thw change of tone in the movies, but after F&F(4) and especially with Fast5...you had to have seen it coming..lol

Like did old fans think they were gonna tame it down after Dubai??

I watched this not long ago, I thibknit was my 3rd UHD I watched. It’s a terrible movie for sure but it’s pure eye candy and fun. Sometimes there is gold in dumpsters.

Ya, you are right, I guess I did see it coming. My excuse for watching it was that it was on the movie channel, so it was free. I will likely even watch the next one, once it is on the movie channel, that is. For the most part, I do enjoy them, but this one struck me as particularly ridiculous.

Fast & Furious 8 was really bad that I only watched it once and never will again Furious 7 was personally my favorite and that's where the series ended for me.

Weird, this was easily my favorite F&F so far. In fact I'd go so far as to say this and Five are the only ones I actually like (but I do have some fond memories of 2).

I really liked Fast Five. I thought Tokyo was the worst of them all.

I thought Tokyo was one of the best. Then again I liked this series when it was about import tuners. Ever since Fast Five the series suffers from megalomania. It has graduated to aircraft heists and submarine chases.

I still go to these movies every time a new one releases in the theater, but the franchise has gone steadily downhill over time. The showrunners have decided to chase the big bucks with the Rock, all that adrenaline action, and Ocean's Eleven style heists. The series just doesn't have the fun factor it used to have. Now it takes itself too seriously. It was better when it was about the girls, the cars, and the simple life.

2 Fast 2 Furious and Fast & Furious 4 were far worse than Toyko Drift.

I just watched this today and the only other one I’ve seen in the series was Furious 7, so I don’t have much context. But these are probably my second favorite braindead UHDs to watch just behind Transformers. I preferred part 7 overall, but I’d say that this one had the better PQ. Not quite a fair comparison since this has DV and 7 does not, but I just felt like the colors in this were as vibrant as anything I’ve seen in the format and I basically had my eyes glued to the screen in every shot. Even the ones with Vin Deisel, and that says A LOT.

I get the sense that I probably don’t need to watch the earlier movies in the series because I really don’t give a **** about cars, but count me in if the next movie goes to outer space.

^ 5 and 6 were already part of the franchise going balls to the walls off the rails rather than being about car racing so would highly recommend those if you liked 7 and 8.
