People have been reasonable and have articulated their points quite clearly.
I wasn’t taking a shot at anyone in this thread. Just pointing out that clearly someone sending death threats is much worse than someone that thinks TLJ is the best movie ever. That is objectively true.

We always hear about death threats, but why aren’t there ever any life threats? “Rian Johnson, I loved The Last Jedi, so if you ever fall onto some subway tracks I’ll jump down and rescue you!”

Did you see the 3D version?
I saw it theatrically in 4K from the third row from the front and three times on UHD. I am set.

I saw it on 4K UHD disc at home and tonight I plan to see it in 3D with my 3D blu-ray edition from merry ol' England. I am set, match, and game.

Not exactly. In this day and age it should say UHD Goofnut.

I finished watching the 3D blu-ray and it is my preferred version. The 3D presentation made the movie come alive with its spatial perspectives. I suspect my guests will choose seeing this in 3D over my 4K copy.

The 4K disc definitely had better colors; the red throne room was nowhere near as vibrant in the 3D version, but the 3D made the throne room feel like it was one.

Both versions have the same anemic sound, no surprise there.

I am glad I can watch this movie in both 3D and 4K, but, for me, the 3D had the "wow" factor while the 4K had the "that's nice" shoulder shrug by comparison.

Despite whatever negativity exists for The Last Jedi it moved up four spots in the last week to be the #5 most collected 4k movie on this site (US only versions of the movie).

The movies ahead of it are Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Logan, Wonder Woman, and Spider-Man: Homecoming. It'll be a few weeks, though, before it can pass Spider-Man and a couple of months to pass Logan and Wonder Woman. But #2 most collected 4k title is nothing to sneeze at (at least until Black Panther blows by everything in its path)

I bet people who like 3D will prefer the 3D and people who are "meh" about it or actively dislike it will prefer the UHD. Shocking.

You know what, we keep running around in circles with this but I just had to "answer" your post one more time. And so we go on and on, but hey, at least we keep it civilized.

I think I will be giving TLJ a third watch sooner than expected. Normally I watch all SW movies back to back, but I am curious on how my opinion will be after seeing TLJ another time, so it'll be just TLJ for now.
Yeah, I sort of agree but where he ended up didn’t get nearly enough screen time or exposition as it needed to so it’d feel real. We had to be told at the opening crawl of TFA that Luke disappeared and a few quips here and there about it. Not good enough, IMO. So Ben went rogue in Luke’s Jedi training camp and Luke just bolts and hides? I guess... love to see or understand more about that though. Not going to get into it again in this thread though. Forget it.

Second watch of TLJ is tonight and we did watch force awakens last night. We have watched the entire series now in chronological order including rogue one so we are Star Wars primed now! My wife and daighters haven’t seen it at all yet so we’ll get some new perspective on it. I shall post my opinions of my second viewing and their first opinions as well. Should be fun.

This viewing will be in 4K, BTW. My 3D copy is still in transit from amazon UK. Grabbed the 4K used for a great price so yeah I have both editions, lol.

The bars are so black on OLED its impossible not to notice
I got the UK disc and tried to watch it this weekend. Indeed the opening immediately gave me the heebie-jeebies. I turned brightness down to 48 and it was a bit better, but does it affect the movie alot ? I put viewing the disc on hold for now. What are the best OLED settings to watch this in HDR10 ?

^ The best setting is to turn off your "tweaking impulse." The PQ is otherwise fine once you've had time to adjust your expectations. It is what it is.

I have only had a quick watch of the first 20 minutes or so but yes, you can turn the brightness down to get proper black space but whenever it switches to anything not space its too dark of course!

Some of the greyish space shots I can attribute to "light pollution" from nearby planets or passing ships, like a different take on J.J.'s fixation with lens flare. For example, the opening battle takes place at D'Qar, a ringed planet. It's possible that light from the planetary ring is tampering with the blacks of outer space. However, in other scenes later in the movie, the fleet is isolated in deep space, so I can't rationalize where the greyish blacks are coming from there, other than maybe an artistic choice made for the sake of consistency?

Isn't there also a possibility on some displays to do a custom curve or something similar that will only bring down the blacks without altering the mids and highs too much?
Not really something I've looked into myself, but I've come across posts by other members mentioning something along those lines.

Watched yesterday and agree the blacks are on the gray side. The are few scenes with very good blacks so obviously it was intended IDK. Still the image was flat as a pancake.
I think the mixture of film and digital/CGI just creates this mess due to all the processing done.
Also, my disc played perfectly on my setup. Think I read some posts about an issue with this.
As for the movie; I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Alot of the silliness from older movies was removed/toned down which I liked. Makes me excited for Episode IX at the least.
