On topic, that stinks there won't be a day/night cycle in the game. I was looking forward to regularly seeing the city at night, but also the shifting to day. Both views are important, so hopefully there will be a way to experience them in the game to repeat in some way. EDIT: In Amazing Spider-Man 2, Beenox added more weight so when you swing, you start to drift directly into the building you're attached to, which was a hassle to control when moving around. They got it right in the first game, but then went backwards for the sequel. Realism isn't the priority in my opinion. Making it fun to play is more important. EDIT: For those who haven't seen the full gameplay Spider-Man 2018 PS4 demo uncut: Last edited by Zivouhr; 05-25-2018 at 10:00 PM. |

While this new Spider-Man PS4 2018 game looks great, the sense of deja vu when watching the newest game play today to that of Beenox's Amazing Spider-Man 1 on PS3 is unreal. From the gameplay fighting to the prison level, the similarities are very close. Amazing Spider-Man 1 was a great game, but I still look forward to the polish Insomniac will bring the game.
I guess it's cool for Insomniac building this Spider-Man game on what came before it, using similar ideas and gameplay mechanics. I don't mind, though it's worth wondering about regards to the similarities and the rights of the play mechanics of Beenox, but they probably did it as a work for hire, and then Insomniac now has those keys to do with it as they need. If it's not broke, don't fix it. The prison level as one example: (jump ahead to 5 minutes in) And the prison level: |

I noticed when he's swinging, there's a fraction of a delay as he transitions into the next move, and the camera pulls WAY too far away from Spidey. It's like he's too small onscreen all of a sudden. I hate when games do that, like driving games, to give the impression that there's more speed involved. They're only shrinking the size of the vehicle, not giving a faster sense of speed, yet most developers do that with the camera for 3rd person vehicles/characters going fast.

There are moments where I think this game looks great, and there are other moments where I think it looks...OK.
My biggest gripe with the game when watching it in action is the character animation when you have direct control of Spider Man (non cut scenes). It looks very "twitchy" and unsmooth, almost like a last gen game. Maybe that's the way it has to be because of how fast the action is but it looks to me like there should be more frames of animation to Spider Man when he's running around and fighting enemies. Seeing Spider Man in action has a choppiness to it. It almost reminds me of how Mortal Kombat characters used to look back in the day when they'd perform combos. |

I'll still be buying this day one because it's Spider-Man and it's Insomniac. |
