How the game plays, the story and atmosphere are far more important than which perspective you play in.
Thats great for you if you like it. The different perspective completely changes how the game plays. If I don't enjoy playing the game then why should I care about the atmosphere or story. It's not that hard to understand. Like I said if you don't get peoples preferences then that is ur problem.

Practically every single person who walked out of the private Cyberpunk E3 demo-screening was in awe. They said it was like a Deus Ex on super-steroids that was developed by a team that truly cares. They said it simply wouldn't work in third-person.

Well that sucks for me cause I hated Deus Ex and how it played. So great for those who are in awe and I'm sure CDPR has reasons for their decision, although it seems more like PR than anything else. Just have no desire to support the game anymore.

According to people who played the game at E3, the studio (CDProjekt Red) wanted a huge, immersive feeling for the gamer. Basically, the HUD is displayed through various interactive objects like a smartwatch. The game wouldn't work as a third-person experience due to the way you fight like in Dishonored, and how you have upgrades made to your eye/ocular-view over the course of the game, as part of the first-person design.

From what people have been saying after seeing the 45 minute demo makes me ponder the idea that CD Project Red isn’t ruling out a VR edition. Imagine that.

They address all the concerns about FP & to be honest it does seem like the game can’t (literally) work with 3rd person perspective in mind.

I wondered that as well.

I for one am glad it's in first person. I didnt want this game to feel like The Witcher 3 reskinned. I'm glad they are daring to make Cyberpunk it's own thing.

Witcher 3 was a great game, so based on that, and the fact this is open world in a futuristic city, that's a big selling point for me despite the FPV.

A VR version could be cool, though I bet only PC could handle it, or a PS5. Bethesda with Fallout 4 VR, didn't offer it for PSVR during E3 2018 sadly. With Fallout 3 and 4 and NV, and Skyrim, I love the option to play in 3rd person view. In those games it really matters so you can see the uniform or armor being worn, plus it's cool to see your character's face as well. But sometimes I'll switch to 1PV indoors with corridors.

Just listened to a CDPR developer talk about the need for first-person in this game, and the big reason was immersion. I'm paraphrasing slightly here, but when asked about it, he basically said, "If you ever try to look directly up in a third-person game, it never REALLY works. In Cyberpunk, it was very important that the player is able to feel the endless, impossible jungle of glass and steel stretching into the sky above them."

It's never easy to patch in a third-person mode for a game that's built from the ground up for first-person. At a minimum, it requires creating new animations for the now-100%-of-the-time-fully-visible player character. Plus creating a dynamic camera-system, if you want it to actually be playable.

Interesting article, thanks.

True about the camera for 3rd person being dynamic if it's too far out, but if it's close to the shoulder of the character, then there's minimal bouncing off of surrounding objects, unlike in Watch Dogs 2, where it's too far out and the camera bounces all around indoors. Not as bad as Spider-Man 2 on PS2 and Spider-Man 3 on PS3 though. That was a far away view and the camera bounced all over while indoors. They should've offered a zoomed in camera. Watch Dogs 1, the camera was much closer and worked great indoors too.

But yeah, it stinks there won't be a 3rd person option to see your character, which is a major part of the appeal of 3rd person games.

YongYea, great youtuber btw saw the demo & he was blown away. What’s interesting about his take of what he saw is that (in his own words) this is definitely not going to make it (visually) on the current gen systems in the form it was shown. So likely a downgraded version will hit this gen if the game is ready.

The demo was running on an i7 8700K / 1080 Ti / 32GB DDR4 @ 3000Mhz /960 Pro SSD system. For those unfamiliar with PC specs; that's a pretty beefy rig for current standards and will cost a DIY builder between $1750 and $2000 as of right now, depending on which parts manufacturers and cooling solution one settles on.

While $2000 isn't all that costly in the PC gaming world, even half of it would be insane for a console. CDPR would have to tone it down a lot to get it running well on current gen and it almost makes me wish they'd just forget about it and push for a next gen release. It would suck for people who can't or don't want to upgrade right away, but looking at The Witcher 3's performance and loading times on current gen...I'd imagine this game would be a chore to play.

This is exactly why I'm waiting to play this one on next gen consoles. A game like this deserves to be played on next gen hardware.

Thanks.

By time this game is ready in 2020 or later maybe, I hope to have a PS5 if it's compatible with discs and with an offline option.

Not sure how the Pro ended up but I played W3 on an X and performance was not an issue at all. There is a 4k locked @30 setting and a variable res @ mostly 60 setting. Loading times were not awful either. If I can expect this same level of performance (or even a little less) out of Cyberpunk I'll be playing it ASAP. This is the type of game I've waiting too long for and performance won't keep me from it.

TW3 does just fine on the Pro but I would like to play CP2077 on the most current console. Whether that be the Pro or PS5, regardless it will be a great gaming experience.

I don't get the furore over the 1st person view. The guys actually crafting the experience are telling you it's best enjoyed and experienced like that yet people somehow think they know better.

The Witcher was a great game, but just as Guerilla felt FPS was right for Killzone, then 3rd person for Horizon; CD Projekt Red know 1st person is right for this game

I don't think that's the case. People simply prefer one or the other and the developer's explanation as to why Cyberpunk 2077 is a FP game isn't going to change that. It's CDProject's game so there is nothing wrong with their decision, but there is nothing wrong with people expressing their disappointment in said decision either.

Personally, I don't care either way. I find third person games just as enjoyable as first person games so I have no problem with this game being the latter. I can understand why many people prefer TP, though.

The problem I have with the people crying over the game being in first person is that some are starting petitions to get it changed to third person. Gamers are the most entitled brats ever. It seems like every single game that comes out now, they have to find something to cry about so they start a damn petition. How sad.
