I'll cheer when this cow dies. I hope it's in very immediate pain.

Back on topic, yeah, definitely not be buying this.

Nice comments...I am not a fan of hers but I dont wish death on her. Tony Blair has more blood on his hands.

I will be getting this as a fan of historical drama

I thought this film was excellent... regardless of what you think about the woman herself, it's worth a watch just to see Streep's performance.

Wow, some people really jumping on their high horse today. I wouldn't not watch Downfall because it portrays Hitler as a human being!

Default The Iron Lady

That Streep is a brilliant actress is beyond dispute. This film however is a bitter disappointment. Few modern leaders are more suited to a decent record of their life. This tawdry, insulting and seriously unbalanced film is a disgrace to a great woman and one of the most significant leaders in British history.

Thatcher is significant in the UK and is the least British PM I can recall. She sold off Britain™ and anything with British™ in the name to anyone with cash (or a promise of it -which we -the world- are now repaying again and again with bank debt). As much as I dislike Tony Blair's war-mongering and numerous other horrors I can find good things there. He is the bastard child politically of Thatcher but I can find no good in Thatcher. She was and still is a ****.

back to the 'film', I caught a glimpse of this and it's a very cheap production and Streep is awful as Thatcher. How anyone can (don't think anyone is really!) saying she's good here is beyond me. The film is shit.

If people want a dramtic and well made production the BBC has coughed up a few interesting things: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00395ATTU

At least those are watchable.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems to me that whenever an actor/actress portrays any sort of historical figure whatsoever in a motion picture, their performance is praised to the extreme. Portraying a historical figure seems to be the safest bet for the critics to praise your performance, even if they don't praise the movie itself.

I thought Hopkins was truly awful as Nixon. It was Hopkins doing Hopkins doing Nixon.

Obviously there's exceptions like Bruno Ganz in Downfall Ganz is Hitler. I can't see Ganz anywhere.

It's just entertainment and the film must entertain or it's a complete failure. Not an easy task for any film but for such a character as Thatcher it's such a turn-off. She was a deeply ugly woman in all senses.

I've seen those The Iron Lady posters for months on buses and bus shelters and Streep looks no more like Thatcher than the Spitting Image characters. I think Spitting Image used less rubber mind you. I'm not sure who The Iron Lady is aimed at. Maybe people in Canada, the USA, NZ, Hong Kong and Australia. And a few other places we raped, pillaged and bought and sold over the centuries. Yes, the film is for a quaint and ignorant lost in the [perceived] past audience.

"THE MOVIE EVENT OF THE YEAR".

Yes, drugs are far too easily accessed by journalists. Thatcher would stop that.

Yeah I'm with the people who can't / won't watch this. But yes I've watched Downfall and I'm actually sat here watching 10 Rillington Place and whatever Thatcher was she wasn't a Hitler or a Christie.

I think though for some of us who lived through the Thatcher era and didn't share her political ideals - but were perhaps affected by them - the feelings are too strong and too personal to give her any time.

Maybe another decade...

The Iron Lady done surprisingly well at the box office in Scotland because we thought it was a horror film.

You must be joking. She's where she belongs. Then again i suppose it's like the Royal Family. If you're Scottish you wont like it, if you're English oh my.......wonderful, splendid, fabulous, smashing! What a load of rubbish.
