Set for release November 16, 2010.
Since they're gonna re-issue Spider-Man with special features, could they re-issue The Fifth Element with all those nice special features from the DVD? I hope so!

I would upgrade it myself because i have the shotty original copy and i did not even know Sony offered a trade in for it for the longest time. By the time i did find out i was all ready to send it off but never got around to it. I am one of those people that forgets to send away for rebates and thats free money so it's easy to forget about a Blu ray. If it's the right price and has special features then im in.
Don't touch that please, your primitive intellect wouldn't understand alloys and compositions and things with... molecular structures

I did the same thing with most of my DVDs; Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas is another. Bought 2 disc cases from U.S. Plastic, arrived in 3 days.

Nice. I actually have both the original and remastered release. Almost identical until you actually watch it!

Fifth Element should have at least everything from the Dvd. Especially since a recent Australian release has a whole bunch of special features. Exactly what they are I still haven't found out yet...

The branding of it, calling it "Essentials", makes it sound like a bare-bones budget reissue. As in "only the essentials".
But if they DO make a special edition, I hope they remember that the US 2-DVD Ultimate Edition left out the special effects' team commentary track from the UK 2-DVD special edition. Maybe it was boring or something. But I'd still like a complete BluRay that includes everything. |

Or, you know what else would be nice?
Digitize the coffee-table book that Luc Besson wrote about the making of The Fifth Element. I'm lucky enough to have a copy of it, but I could only afford the version that was in French. The English version ebays for well over $150. High-def is sharp enough that they could just display the entire book. The pages are square, so a gatefold view of 2 pages at a time would actually work just fine. It they still have the source files, a high-res pdf of the book layout, this would be relatively easy to do. |

While we are dreaming of Fifth Element extras, if they could include all the extras from the French and German releases (not on the USA release) plus the sublime European 6.1 audio track. It doesn't just add a channel it's a completely different and better audio mix with smoother and more layered sound.
I finally found a list of the Australian extras in this review: http://www.michaeldvd.com.au/Reviews...ws.asp?ID=9371 And in the comments at the bottom it refers to a great sounding German release! http://www.michaeldvd.com.au../Submi...o/Comments.asp Omg this looks like it - and it has a 6.1 track!! http://www.amazon.de/fünfte-Element-...4552877&sr=1-1 Last edited by HumanMedia; 09-15-2010 at 12:16 PM. |

Can you guys enlighten me on the Region A Blu for TFE? Was the original BD release flawed in some way (PQ or AQ?) that Sony had an exchange program for it? If so, is there a way I can tell which copy I have - I bought a used BD of TFE from a local seller so I don't know when/where it was originally purchased... Also, is this new Essentials package just added bonus features, or is the video/audio being remastered as well? I watch absolutely NONE of the extra features on any BD/DVD, so only PQ/AQ is my concern... Thx!
