![]() It's easiest enough to regurgitate the list of 'rare' blu steels, John Rambo, I Am Legend and Iron Man. As for Ironpaks and Digi-Books, I'm not sure, I don't run in those circles ![]() Why are you looking for rare? Would you not want to look for movies that you may want to watch as well, I'm just guessing if you are looking for rare, you are looking to keep sealed them sealed, if I'm mistaken excuse me. |

If a movie came out in all 3 I'd have to think the Steelbook would be the most desirable, though I'm not convinced it would be the most 'rare'. |

I would say that it would be between the JOHN RAMBO SteelBook, and maybe the TERMINATOR SALVATION IronPack. The reason is because JR was recalled (so I've heard) and would not have been an A-list movie that would have sold a lot of copies for its initial release. As for TS, it was spat upon by SteelBook collectors everywhere and no one wanted to touch it with a ten-foot pole. Copies sat on shelves for months, but lately, there has been a modest rise in interest. It is the first IronPack that I know of, even though the movie itself (like JR) is questionable. If IronPack takes off with the release of this second wave of Disney, the interest and demand for TS may grow -- and many may find it hard to get because no one hoarded copies of this, as far as I know. Either way, it doesn't really matter because any day anyone can decide to reprint these things and all of this history goes down the tubes. |

There are probably more steelbooks out there and the rare ones of those tend to be more collectible than the rare ironpacks so far, but it really depends on the film. There are a few ironpacks that are rarer than certain steelbooks which get huge production runs, and of course the country you're in will affect the easiness of getting hold of certain ones.
If you want the 'rarest version' I'd decide on the film you want first, and then work out what version you want, as opposed to thinking about the 'version' first... unless you're the sort of person who collects BDs to collect them more than to watch them. Digbooks do not get limited runs and are not rare as far as I can tell. For many films it is the only version you can get. I think that the original One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest has gone Out of Print though (to make way for the new box set), so maybe that'll become a 'rare' digibook |

Blu-ray SteelBooks have been out since 2007, so some of the first ones are considered rare and difficult to obtain at reasonable prices (i.e. less than a 3 digit price tag). On the other hand, the German Pans Labyrinth blu was the very first Blu-ray SteelBook release, and that one is fairly easy to obtain still. It really does depend on the popularity of the film and the demand for it. Some SteelBooks sold out very, very fast because of the demand for them, while others took forever to sell out.
Ironpacks are new, and demand is still building for them. They might take off like SteelBooks have, or they might not. Digibooks have become increasingly more popular from what I have noticed over these last few months, and with many of them getting replaced with an amaray release over time, there is a good chance for demand to increase as they slowly start to disappear off the shelves. I think that after awhile, WB and the other Studios that release them will phase out the digibook in favor of a standard release. The fact that they have such a large print run, though, means that they will never be considered that rare, at least not anytime soon. Last edited by mr. b; 09-21-2010 at 09:14 PM. |

I simply want the coolest looking for my collection. Having bonus material is definitely a plus as well. Now, that typically means Steelbook, but for a couple of titles I bought Ironpacks because I thought they looked better & had bonus disks. Decide for yourself & just enjoy what you're collecting.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I understand not everyone collects for the same reasons. To each their own. |

I think these guys are throwing a curve ball. The rarity of the release depends purely on the decision of the producers.
For example, the Scarface will be sold in Steelbook form (unspecified number) and a collector's edition humidor which is limited to 1,000 worldwide. Obviously the latter is exceedingly more rare than the former in that case. In general, the more expensive the edition, the rarer it is (if not because it's limited edition, then because fewer people will buy it on the supply/demand curve). |

Fewer people can afford the more expensive editions, so even though you have a $700 humidor that's limited to 1000 pcs, the number of people who are willing to buy that are far fewer than a $30-70 SteelBook or Ironpack. |

I bet the Scarface 1000 limited edition humidor will sell out, despite the price, but that's a different topic. |
