Default Blu-ray and 60hz LCDs

One item I'm thinking of grabbing before Black Friday deals are up is a bedroom TV. I'm curious, though, about Blu-ray picture quality on 60hz LCD units in terms of motion blur: Is it bad? Not bad? In between? Dependent on what you're watching? Anything else I should be aware of that could potentially hamper my bedroom viewing experience?

If you have experience with BD and 60hz units, I'd appreciate the input. Thanks!

You will get some judder in fast panning shots, but overall the experience shouldn't be ruined if you go with a quality set.

Most plasma's only have a 60hz 3:2 pulldown and there are tons of happy plasma users. (some high end models provide a 48hz, 72hz or 96hz modes just for 24p movies, but can produce flicker).

Both of the TV's which I own are 60hz models and I haven't ever had a movie experience ruined because of some judder during a fast moving or panning shot. Ultimately, if you are really worried about judder, then I suggest you pick up a model that has a true 24p mode that will do an even pulldown (not all 120hz LCD/LED's will do an even pulldown properly). Good 120hz TV's will do a 5:5 (24x5), and give you much less judder than a 60hz set. 240hz TV's will do 10:10 (24x10).

As long as you have a 24p True Cinema mode built in your HDTV then your good to go. Most 60hz with 24p true cinema feels like a 120hz HD set.

The only downside about 60hz is when you watch sports, because you will get some blurring during fast motions.
When it comes to Blu-Ray, you will be just fine.

True. Some 120Hz LCD TVs, instead of reproducing 24p material with a nice, even 5:5 pulldown scheme, will actually double up on a 3:2 scheme (utilizing a 60Hz x 2 operation). Though, visually, this may be a touch better than 3:2 pulldown at 60Hz, it's still going to stagger at least one progressive frame twice every second.

Keep in mind that we, before the days of our glorious fixed pixel TVs, have been viewing "uneven" 60Hz pulldown schemes on our TVs for the entire time we have had TV technology beforehand, and interlaced video as well. Most of us never noticed the effects of staggered interlacing lines in the broadcast pulldown necessary to transmit video at varying framerates (most notably when broadcasting film sources shot at its native 24 frames a second).

That's what we lived with all those decades, and it was perfectly fine for the very most part. Like debates centering around audio quality, all but the most discerning will not mind (or even care to notice) the effects of 3:2 pulldown on 24p BD movies displayed on a 60Hz TV.

I have Sony Bravia 40" 60Hz and I don't notice any problems while watching Blurays, however I can see the lines on certain PS3 games. Mainly during COD where a lot of things are happening on the screen I will see some lines. Anyways, 60Hz is not a bad investment but 120Hz is better.

I have a 46 inch 60Hz Sony and no Motion Blur whatsoever. One of the best movies to test this out is "Kung Fu Panda" where Po is trying to break his way into the ceremony for the next Dragon Warrior. I too was concerned about motion blur when I first got my blu ray player but I haven't had an issue with any movies.

It's only during HD Broadcasts of Sporting events and fast action TV shows where I see this issue, but again my TV is about 4 years old too.

I don't want piss on anyones bonfire but when I had my 50hz LG I had quite bad motionblur and it really bothered me not all the time just in fast paced action scenes and wide panning shots but since vie upgraded to my Sony 100hz motion blur LCD the improvement is vast and I'm really impressed using kung Fu panda as the example the picture was alot smoother and sharper!!

Now to be fair alot of the peoples tv who have posted on here where probably better than my old LG!!! But I beleve once you go 100hz you'll never go back ! 

One of my LCD HDTV is 52" Sony Bravia 60Hz and the picture quality is phenomenal. No Motion blur of any kind and Crisp quality and full of colors. Every time I visit an electronic stores I look around at the 120-240Hz setups but they never impress me as much as mine does. Blu-Rays are perfect on it, Playing PS3 games are excellent, and I watch alot of TV with DirecTV HD and every HD channel is unbelievably good.

So I guess it depends on what manufacture u choose for that 60Hz. Let us know if u bought one and what u think of it.
