Default Stephen Kings: Bag of Bones (A&E mini series)

A&E Scores Stephen King Adaptation 'Bag of Bones'

Quote:
A&E has picked up the Pierce Brosnan-Stephen King four-part miniseries "Bag of Bones," says THR. The four-hour miniseries, based off King’s New York Times bestselling novel, will air over two nights in the fourth quarter of 2011. Anabeth Gish will also star.

Mick Garris - who helmed tele adaptations of King's "Quicksilver Highway," "The Stand" and "The Shining" - will direct and Matt Venne wrote the script. It will be filmed in Nova Scotia, Canada. Production begins next month.

"Brosnan plays a man who is unable to stop grieving for his wife, who died suddenly. After returning to the lakeside retreat they shared, he inadvertently gets involved in a local custody battle – while having nightmares about his dead wife."

It's produced by Sony Pictures Television for A&E.
Will be watching when it airs.

I own a copy of the book, but have yet to read it... I suppose now would be a good time, so I can catch the miniseries when it airs.

I'm a Brosnan fan, so I'll definitely check this out.

How good is the book in comparison to King's other works?

Hard to get excited over a King tv adaptation, regardless of who it stars.

Yeah!

IT, The Stand, Storm of The Century ... hard to indeed

Looking forward to this, a not very well known but pretty good King story imo.

Seems like a REALLY shot time span from production to airing if the airing is set for fourth-quarter 2011. Even if they start now with a December 2011 airdate, that only gives them four months to shoot, edit and do post on what is probably 6-7 hours of material...

This casting announcement says it will air late next year, not this year. So I think we can assume Bloody-Disgusting made an error in their article.

Quote:
On A&E's Stephen King’s Bag of Bones, a two-night, four-hour miniseries based on King's bestseller, Melissa George joins Pierce Brosnan and Annabeth Gish. The mini, set to premiere late next year, centers on bestselling novelist Mike Noonan (Brosnan), who is unable to stop grieving after the sudden death of his wife Jo (Gish). A dream inspires him to return to the couple's lakeside retreat in western Maine, where he becomes involved in a custody battle between the daughter of an attractive young widow (George) and the child's enormously wealthy grandfather, the mysterious ghostly visitations, the ever-escalating nightmares and the realization that his late wife still has something to tell him.

Each and every film you mentioned would have benefitted from two things:

1) An R-rated script. This is Stephen $#@%ing King we're talking about, not J.K. Rowling...

...and....

2) More real actors, and fewer folks like Harry Anderson of Night Court and John Boy of The Waltons. You know, folks like Jack Nicholson, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks. Great actors, not hacks.

I just got finished watching both parts from my DVR. Both parts in my opinion were quite good. Most people will like Part 2 because it's more action-packed than the first. The movie has some good creepy moments and was quite atmospheric. I wouldn't say it's a horror story, but more of a mystery/thriller/drama fusion. I say it's a must-see if you're a Stephen King fan, and Pierce Brosnan was great and carried the entire thing. 7.5/10.

This is coming from someone who has never read the book though.

Here's a fact that's probably only interesting to me. Early in part one when Brosnan is driving to the lake house there's a shot of him driving by an apartment building I used to live in.

Thought it was okay, seemed to need a bit more meat to its runtime. Least it wasn't like IT or The Langoliers.

see, ya either like King or ya dont for the most part... i actually like IT a lot... for the story standpoint of the movie...the ending is a lil "meh"

and The Langoliers is also a weird favorite of mine haha...but i can easily see why people dont like it...

ill be checking Bag of Bones out soon... hope i like it

They never released their Andromeda Strain mini on Blu, at least not in the US... So it is hard to say.

Finally got around to watching this...and i liked it...first half has you intrigued...and the second half the mystery starts to unravel and you start putting it all together....

I can tell that the book was probably much better, like most of Kings work....he goes into Sci Fi elements that are hard to translate to film....

I enjoyed it for the story but dont think i would pick this one up on BD if it came out....

I was unimpressed by this adaptation. The mystery started devolving in the second half to something you might see on the Lifetime channel.
