Default Out of Africa - March 6th, 2012 - Remastered Review

Out of Africa Blu-ray

Out of Africa Blu-ray Review

Quote:
We've asked the studio whether this is a new transfer or just a re-issue of the existing version, and HAVE CONFIRMED that this is a newly-remastered version that should be far superior to the existing disc.

Looks like this list is accurate after all...

An OT release of the Star Wars Trilogy is the "gay marriage" of home video: the dark side keeps fighting against it, saying that only a small amount of people really want it. However, in no way will it affect their love and enjoyment of their current "situation."
And the good side realizes that it will make millions of people happy and society will only benefit from it.

Damn. Well I guess I can give mum a mothers day present of this upgrade.

Having already given it to her on 2010 xmas haha The now-older version.

I thought there was nothing wrong with the old one I guess they want a 5/5 result for this in the home movie market.

Too bad they don't have that viewpoint for BTTF/Waterworld/The Jackal and any number of other catalog I'd prefer they treat with absolute care and reference scans/mastering.

I'm glad I waited. After reading that article where the industry admitted to making a mistake with Out of Africa. I knew they would do something quickly to fix it.

I absolutely hate re-buying movies -- especially when it could've and should've been done correctly the first time. But this one is too dear to me to pass up.

EDIT: Whoa, are they seriously giving this a $40 MRSP?! If so, that adds insult to injury.

Only about 100 more remasterings to go...

well imo the original Out of Africa disc is without a doubt the worst bd issue of a major film by a major studio and should never have been released in the first place.
I do commend Universal for finally doing the right thing and issuing the "real" blu-ray release.
they should absolutely offer a replacement program for the poor people they scammed on the first release, even though the audio track was fantastic.
very happy about this news, as an Oscar winner like Out of Africa deserves a proper blu-ray release.

I hope they do. I bought it and haven't even watched it. What a waste.

LOL! I'm with you on this! I had my doubts about that thread but it looks to be 100% legit! Great source that OP had!
Back on topic, very glad I held off on this title. Looks like 3/6/12 is going to be a very expensive day for me!

Films like this from this era make me think of Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes and how I'd like to see it on Blu-ray.

and since it's Warner's you'd have better luck they wont botch the transfer - as I recall HDNet Movies has aired it. (I remember seeing this at the Uptown theater in 70mm/6-track and the beautiful ending with the gorgeous music score ...
