This may have become overlooked with all of the recent news releases but it looks like 20th Century Fox is definitely planning to bring James Cameron's The Abyss and True Lies to Blu-ray and that it could be tied into a promotion for next year (2013).
Digital Bits.com is reporting that some of their industry sources are reporting that they have something planned for 2013. Two of my favorite films finally coming to Blu-ray. It's reported by Bill Hunt, over at The Digital Bits. This is great news. Source: http://digitalbits.com/#031312 Look toward the end of the entry for this news. |

No doubt. I was browsing through The Digital Bits.com site and I couldn't believe this little news gem was overlooked by everyone. While no release date is firm yet, the news that 20th Century Fox is definitely planning something for the releases of both of these films for 2013 is a big kudo for movie fans.
While True Lies is a bit cheesy, it's still one of my favorite films. But, I'm also psyched about The Abyss. This film has always been one of my favorite sci-fi films. It ranks right up there with Contact as being closer to actual first contact with an alien race. I can't wait for these releases. |

True Lies was never even released on anamorphic DVD over here. Man, I can't *wait* for that one to come out on Blu.

I think I read on HTF or somewhere that James Cameron is personally involved in preparing these two releases, my money's on brand new transfers.

I remember buying the "special edition" DVD release, the last version that was available and it was an extended version, longer, as well.
However, according to Bill Hunt, Cameron is unusually busy right now so it's going to take him time to get around to these releases. But, with 20th Century Fox motivated to release these two films, we could see a release by Christmas 2013. |

Which may be the holdup on The Abyss.. the longer director's cut was not prepared in HD, so all those effects would have to be re-done.
