France Three Halloween movies July 3rd

Seems France is releasing three Halloween movies July 3rd

Halloween: The Curse of Michael Meyers
Halloween H20: 20 years later
Halloween: Resurrection

Let´s hope Curse get a good release in 1080p since all others BDs are 1080i (CA/US). And all get BD50 with high bitrates, 24-bit DTS-HD MA

Wow I can't believe you just said III isn't good!! I bet because it has nothing to do with Michael Myers The story was great and it had a great horror atmosphere to it and Tom Atkins made a great performance.

Any information about these??? I still see no sign of specifications and special features. I was hoping these would be released in the UK, but I emailed StudioCanal and they say they have no plans of releasing them.

I'm 98% sure those releases will be exactly the same as the spanish ones.
But I'm also 98% sure that they will have french forced subs too

The first comment sounds good . The Spanish releases are supposed to be best. The second comment doesn't sound very good . I may have to cancel my Amazon orders if the subs are forced, this would ruin the movie. How do you know about the forced subs??

Because they are forced on their last Miramax releases (Equilibrium, and Soldier Blue for example - I didn't buy Cross of Iron because I had the UK disc)

But as I said, it's a guess. I don't know for sure. It's just a "98% sure" guess if you prefer

I will buy them and once I will get them I will report on that potential issue if no one do so before me.

They usually force subs if their disc is for France only don't they? And with no uk release seems likely. Unknown was forced wasn't it ????

The subtitles on the Spanish disc are apparently removable, so if the discs are identical they may be removable as well.

Has anyone seen any extras listed for the French H20 and Resurrection discs? The Spanish discs have extras, but Studio Canal's website isn't listing anything...

Yes they are removable on the spanish discs.
Actually when I say that "the discs will be identical", I mean the original master will surely be the same, but as the audio will change etc, the encode won't be the same (size of the movie, bitrate etc)

But I can state that the subs aren't removable on the first batch of the french Studio Canal/Miramax releases: Cross of Iron, Eqilibrium and Soldier Blue... still I don't see any major differences in the look of those french transfers when I compared them with the foreign releases that I also have.
It's why I'm saying they will be the same but I'm almost sure that subs won't be removable.

I will have to ask a friend who bought Crossing Guard and The Faculty to know if they were or if they weren't...

As far as Halloween: H20 is concerned, the French and German discs should be identical. Note the specs from StudioCanal Germany:

http://www.studiocanal.de/blu-ray/halloween_h20-blu-ray

They clearly show that the German disc will have French and German DUB and subtitle options, and given the close proximity of the release dates (3 July in France and 19 July in Germany), I think it's far more likely that Studiocanal have just mastered the same disc for both territories. Now, it's still possible that subtitles would be forced based on country selection (the Kinowelt DVD had forced German subs, it seems, and the French DVD was from our friends at TF1), but I'm hopeful that StudioCanal has not forced them here.

Hello singulus,

That is not surprising, since most of the Miramax catalog titles have used the same master, but have been encoded quite differently, depending on the distributor.

Excellent to hear that there are no forced subtitles. I assume this version will probably be the best one to get, until (if) a new HD master is created.

Hi,

I just want to add that it doesn't look bad. There are some minor spots and some shots are a little soft, but this was a low budget production. You can't expect that every BR looks like AVATAR. I do not regret the purchase.

greetings

So happy that I was wrong to suspect forced french subs as on the previous french Miramax/Studio Canal batch of BDs

Will definitely get them all!
