Default The Batmobile Documentary (Winter 2012)

Sorry, I'm a little late, but yesterday The CW showed a 22 min. Documentary based on all the Batmobiles from the movies.

What I wasn't aware, is that this TV special was only a shorter version of a longer documentary coming to Blu-ray and digital Download this holiday season!

It looks like the perfect companion to the book "Batmobile: The Complete History" by Mark Cotta Vaz.

Batmobile Documentary Chronicles Ultimate Crime-Fighting Vehicle

By Anita Lienert, Correspondent | Published Jul 17, 2012

Just the Facts:
  • A Batmobile documentary, set for release during the 2012 holiday season, chronicles the ultimate crime-fighting vehicle that has been called "a mythic character in itself."
  • A YouTube preview of the Batmobile documentary is linked to the July 20 release of The Dark Knight Rises, the final chapter in director Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy.
  • The Batmobile documentary offers a deep dive into all details of the supercar, from its "Bat-chutes" to its blazing machine guns.

LOS ANGELES — A Batmobile documentary, set for release during the 2012 holiday season, chronicles the ultimate crime-fighting vehicle that has been called "a mythic character in itself."

A YouTube preview [LINK] of the Batmobile documentary is linked to the July 20 release of The Dark Knight Rises, the final chapter in director Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy. The Batmobile documentary offers a deep dive into all details of the supercar, from its "Bat-chutes" to its blazing machine guns.

The film features interviews with Batman movie directors Nolan, Joel Schumacher and Tim Burton, along with actors who have played Batman. Actor Christian Bale, who is known for his dark portrayal of the superhero, said that driving the Batmobile is "very noisy," according to the YouTube preview.

The short sneak peek film includes vintage cartoon panels of early Batman vehicles from DC Comics and footage of various TV and movie Batman vehicles, including the original 1966 George Barris Batmobile from the TV series.

Adam West, who played Batman in the TV series, described the Batmobile as a "mythic character in itself." The documentary underscores the fact that Batman had no super powers and needed a special vehicle to take on the bad guys.

The documentary is coming to Blu-ray and digital download in December.

Inside Line says: A must-see preview for fans of the Caped Crusader.

Interesting. I hope it covers more than just the live action cars, though. There are a lot of great Batmobiles from the comics and cartoons as well.

Well, that book was a tie-in promo for the Dark Knight Rises, almost 1/5 of the book deal with the Tumbler in deep details (Blueprints, notes, etc.) so it's why it has been choosen for the cover but the whole book is incredibly cool and count 148 pages. The pictures are amazing!

By the way, many find the Tumbler "ugly", but when you truly study the shape of it, it looks exactly like a bat.

And it's still ugly.

However, it DOES fit the films.

Saw the documentary and loved it. Really really good.

The book cover would be cool if they showed parts of the Batmobile from different movie adaptations that formed a whole Batmobile. Hopefully the documentary actually comes with the Dark Knight Rises, and not a standalone release.

The coolest thing in the whole documentary was seeing all the Batmobiles being driven in a line on the street and then parked right next to one another. You can blame the shape of the Tumbler on Nolan, who molded the basic shape out of clay on his own and told the designer to build it that way.

I was fine with the tumbler in BB, because that was the start of things and it fit. By TDK and especially in TDKR, there should be a full fledged Batmobile.

Unless I REALLY missed something(which is entirely possible), all I've seen so far in TDKR are a bunch of camouflaged tumblers, a flying tumbler, another bat pod and that's about it.
