There are a lot of classic/old war movies which are not released on blu-ray.
Where can I find a list with planned releases? What is the chance that every old/classic war movie will be released on blu-ray? I'd like to see the following war movies on blu-ray: - Battleground 1949 - Sergeant York 1941 - Destination Tokyo 1943 - Sands of Iwo Jima 1949 - Halls of Montezuma 1951 - Operation Pacific 1951 - Stalag 17 1952 - Battle Cry 1954 - The Purple Plain 1954 - The Sea Chase 1955 - Attack! 1956 - The Enemy Below 1957 - Run Silent, Run Deep 1958 - Young Lions 1958 - Sink the Bismarck 1960 - Hell is for Heroes 1961 - Judgment at Nuremberg 1961 - In Harm's Way 1965 - The Flight of the Phoenix 1965 - Is Paris Burning? 1966 - Anzio 1968 - The McKenzie Break 1970 - Midway 1976 - The Big Red One 1980 Will the above movies be released on blu-ray, or is the demand not high enough? |

at least half of those will make it out imo.
![]() Flight of the Phoenix is a perfect choice for Twilight Time for instance. I'd have to think Warner will certainly release The Big Red One at some point, as well as Sergeant York and possibly Operation Pacific. In Harm's Way should get released by Paramount, but as far as all the MGM/UA films, those may have to be released by some foreign entity like Koch in Germany perhaps. hard to know what Fox is thinking regarding some of their just below top tier war classics. I would think Battleground and Battle Cry are probably a long shot from Warner, but maybe eventually. btw: I would think a lot of classic war film buffs would love to see all of those films get bd releases. a good list for sure. let's hope for the best. This is Warner we are talking about so they're probably not going to look any better. However, I would like to see Battle of the Bulge released with lossless audio.

Great list of titles. I'd like to add one more, quite possibly the finest war movie ever made..."They Were Expendable".

Good list, sadly I've seen but a few of those in the OP.
If I had to add one, it would be Zoltan Korda's SAHARA (1943). Really hopeful Criterion gets this one. They have a few of Korda's films already, they have done some great stuff with Sony/Columbia as well. I would think Twilight Time would be all over Sahara if they could get their hands on it, but it might be a bit above their pay grade. ![]() Last edited by AgentOrange; 11-10-2012 at 12:30 AM. |

I thought about putting all the movies you guys have mentioned till now in the list, but I didn't do it. Don't know why, but I have thought about every single one of them ![]() Edit: I lied, I didn't think about this one: King Rat (1965). I've never even watched King Rat ![]() |

A great list but The Flight Of The Phoenix is not a war movie. I've seen Stalag 17 in HD & it looks great, the very early Columbia DVD looks really poor. Battleground is on TV in HD next week (UK), worth recording. My favorite on that list is, Run Silent, Run Deep, & I'd just love They Were Expendable, another DVD that doesn't look very good. I'd add The Naked & The Dead & a great British P.O.W. escape film, Danger Within. Oh, & The Victors, the BBC showed the long version a couple of months ago, I hope it makes it onto Blu some day.

I watched Von Ryan's Express last night, with Memorial Day in mind. Good movie!
EDIT: One more thing ... in some of the action sequences, they would hit the piano keys really hard. It seemed familiar to me. I thought it was very similar to music used in the action sequences in Planet of the Apes. ![]() Last edited by Page14; 05-27-2013 at 01:43 PM. |

I'm hoping Mill Creek to release a double feature of:
COMMANDOS / WAR DEVILS COMMANDOS (1968) stars the great Lee Van Cleef and Jack kelly WAR DEVILS a.k.a. I diavoli della guerra (1969) stars Guy Madison These are Italian WWII movies of the late 1960s. |
