Here we go again..

I highly doubt this is gonna make any difference. Movies like Casablanca are scanned in 8k if I'm not mistaken.

The only thing that is a plus with these releases is a slightly higher bitrate. Sony should just focus on higher capacity BDs and a new compression algorithm instead. We have 4K displays already. Not to mention HDMI 2.0 spec already ready. (Something that is not really required as 1.4 supports 4K 3D.)

There's already a thread discussing this, so why...oh wait, for all the ghetto people that don't like to get out of their ghetto :/

@Srini:
As for Sony focusing on having larger capacity blu-rays and new encodes, the blu-ray market is just about gaining traction. Shifting to another format that current players and displays cannot support would be a suicidal move for an already financially shaky Sony, unless they're willing to bundle in dual format BD / 4K BD versions at the same price that people currently pay for BD.

On the other hand, if we should not post/discuss as discussions are already taking place on ther country threads, so why asking for screenshots of Indian blurays on this forum. Before screenshots are posted here, its already available on various other forums/websites.
Just should check out those forums/websites why to start new threads for them

That's exactly what I had in mind. I agree, the general public (not just in India) still haven't adopted Blu-ray and 3D has just started gaining popularity. Sony including 4K would result in '4k 3D + 4k 2d + 1080p 3D + 1080p 2D' combo packs. (Might as well ditch DVDs now) They'd probably charge a few dollars more but those interested would be given an option so that they won't need to double dip in the future. They can slowly ease it in just like they did with 3D.
Blu-ray is the last physical format that will ever be, mostly cos it's very flexible. Ethernet has more pros than HDMI but the industry won't adopt it because they would want next gen devices to be backwards compatible with today's tech.
It will be a niche market but what Sony is doing now is just plain cheating. Might as well use their R&D resources usefully.

As of now, 4K projectors are a necessity for those sitting at 1.1x the screen size if said screen is bigger than 130 inches, even if viewing a 1080p image. Most 1080p projectors exhibit the screendoor effect when viewed closer than 1.2x the screen size (when the screen size is pretty big.).

Well apart from higher bitrates , i see notable difference in the screenshots of Angels and Demons , the newly mastered one looks clearly better with distinct colour and contrast from its predecessor , what i'am trying to say is , this is not a very bad idea , and those who havn't bought the blu ray can go for this new version , being rest assured that marginal PQ Boost will surely be there , those who already own these movies should not bother upgrading , but they can use this for their future releases , which will show better results vis a vis normal Blu ray releases , as far as real 4k is concerned , its all together a different story.

I agree with that (especially since I myself was thinking of buying Angels & Demons ) but I hope Sony doesn't start botching future BD releases on purpose. For example, Sony shouldn't release 'White House Down', a 2013 movie, in November and then re-release it in slightly higher quality next year saying it is now mastered in 4k. The first release of the movie itself should be 'mastered' in 4k.
This reminds of Superbit DVDs..

To me, this just looks like another excuse for studios to get people to double dip .

Right , and then it would be just cheating the customers , i am considering Angles and Demons (Mastered in 4k) , just because of Hans Zimmer's outstanding score, i also liked the movie a bit , but the high shipping costs + import fee deposit if ordered from Amazon US , are pushing me against buying it. Will put it on hold for now , will buy later with Kill Bill Vol 1&2 (Lionsgate version).

This forum is best used for the following topics, and not for duplicating topics that have nothing to do with India because some people are too lazy to click on another forum:

-Overall discussion of the Indian Blu-Ray industry

-Blu-Rays of Indian films released in India and other countries (like Criterion/AE Satyajit Ray discs)

-Indian editions of non-Indian films vs. the international counterparts

-Issues related to buying discs and equipment for Indian customers, either within India or from international sellers. Availability, shipping costs, customs duties, etc.

-Ordering Indian movies outside India

It just makes more sense to keep everything organized.

Never saw you opposing when one Indian movie had 3-4 threads.
That's duplicating of threads and should be avoided
And I too believe that this forum should have the threads related to the format.

I disagree somewhat - cut them some slack - because I can see new techniques or technologies that become available next year that they wish they had at the time of release. But if they make its a habit of putting out a crappy release first and then following up with better release consistently, then I would stop buying and let it be known.

I have re-authored my own home video compilations as I come across new ways to filter them or present them better,

This development of technology never stops
Sony introduced these 4K mastered titles, in near future they will for sure introduce the original 4K movies requiring more space on disc.
So if one has decided to not upgrade to 4K in near future then can go with these ones, other ones should wait for the 4K movies to debut in the home video world

If you are then where were you when dozens of Indian blurays had duplicate threads and in present also they have.
You are opposing for this thread as its already available in North America, so why have I started in India, but never saw you posting against those threads which are duplicated in this Indian forum or have no relation to this forum. For instance what has 'Indian Music discussion' thread to do with this forum, when did you objected it.
If you have a problem with this thread, oppose the forum community as atleast its not an off-forum topic.

yeah but the different color and contrast dont necessarily have to be because this release was from a 4k master.

Also most new non-bollywood releases are already downsampled from 4k masters arent they (unless the DI was 2k because thats the resolution the special effects were done in I guess)?
