Blu-ray Samurai

![]() ![]() Gatchaman: Complete Collection + OVAs Blu-ray So other than the fact that this appears to be the complete series, do we have any other details about it? Will both the US and Japanese voice overs be included? Are these new masters, or DVD upscales? What kinds of extras do we know about at this point? And finally: Am I the only nerd on the planet that seems to care about this release? Last edited by Deciazulado; 07-03-2013 at 11:34 AM. |

I think there's some discussion in the nearly 800 page thread titled "OFFICIAL Anime on Blu-ray (USA releases)." But since that's a slog...
![]() These are NOT upscales; Tatsunoko went back to film elements and re-scanned. Here's a trailer for many of their new releases (be sure to select 1080 resolution... the GATCHAMAN clips look very good...) Here's more details about the U.S. release, originally posted by WTK... Title: GATCHAMAN COMPLETE BLU-RAY Published by: Sentai Filmworks Distributed by: Section23 Films Run Time: 2770 min. Street Date: 10/29/2013 Format: BD Language: English & Japanese language with English Subtitles SRP: $149.98 14 discs (in 3 amaray cases) housed inside a sturdy slipcase (not chipboard) Special Features: Interviews; Commentaries; Profiles; Sketches; Audition Footage; Music; Galleries Disc 1 (225 min) eps. 1-9 Disc 2 (225 min) eps. 10-18 Disc 3 (225 min) eps. 19-27 Disc 4 (225 min) eps. 28-36 Disc 5 (225 min) eps. 37-44 Disc 6 (225 min) eps. 46-54 Disc 7 (225 min) eps. 55-63 Disc 8 (225 min) eps. 64-72 Disc 9 (225 min) eps. 73-81 Disc 10 (225 min) eps. 82-90 Disc 11 (225 min) eps. 91-99 Disc 12 (150 min) eps. 100-105 Disc 13 (145 min) OVA's Disc 14 Extras Disc And to show you're not the only nerd into this kind of thing, make sure you watch the following HD trailer for the live-action GATCHAMAN arriving in Japan later this year... |

Nice. Great to see them restored!
Yeah, I knew it had to be in that mega-thread, but I didn't want to slough through it just to find what I was looking for. I was also aware of the Japanese live-action film, but that is the first moving footage I have seen of it. It looks too serious. The burning Phoenix looks cool though! My hope is that Pacific Rim, Ender's Game, and Godzilla do well enough to get some G-force action going here in the states! Glad to see I'm not alone. I just bought the soundtrack to the series about a month ago! ![]() |

I totally forgot about this series. When I saw the cover on the site, I thought wow, looks awesome and when I clicked realized it was the show my younger brother used to watch after school.
I'd watch with him and pretended not to like it just so I can make fun of him. That was a long time ago. I'll definitely get this to watch it with Japanese/English sub. The other thing I totally forgot was the name of the show when it aired was called Battle of the Planets. The clip showing the remaster looks totally awesome. |

Actually, no. The Sandy Frank dubs are titled "Battle of the Planets" and "G-Force" and they've edited the 105 original episodes of Gatchaman into 85 episodes. Back in 2005, ADV before turning into Sentai Filmworks, redubbed all 105 unedited episodes with their voice cast and is the most accurate dub of the bunch, so since all 105 episodes are included unedited, it will be the new ADV Films dub. The original Sandy Frank dubs are currently in licencing hell after Sandy Frank lost the rights to those dubs.

Now this is amazing news. Absolutely buying this set. I might have to ask for this one for Christmas because I'm pre-ordering too many blu-rays lately. So much good stuff coming out.
Sounds like it comes with English and the original Japanese tracks, and English subs, plus extras. Do we know if these are all the extras that were previously released in the Gatchaman DVDs? I have most of the DVDs but only a few of the bonus discs because I picked them up used in a local store. Is the extras disc a blu-ray? Shame we won't be getting the "Battle of the Planets" episodes too - even though they are cut to shreds, and even re-written in terms of episode plots, that's what I grew up with, and I think they did a great job with the English voices. Still, this is exciting news for Gatchaman fans. |

This will be the uncut original Japanese version of Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, not the edited Americanized Battle of the Planets.

Yes, all extras are ported from the ADV DVD releases since Sentai Filmworks is still ADV. They would be included on a separate disc in the set along with the OVA's.
