![]() District 9 and Elysium director Neill Blomkamp has recruited the Slumdog Millionaire to help make his latest sci-fi slum film the slummiest yet. Blomkamp will once again return to the future's shittiest neighborhoods for Chappie, a film based on a short he made in 2004, and Patel has reportedly signed on to star as the film's human lead. As for the non-human lead, Blomkamp's old go-to Sharlto Copley will co-star as a robot cop that is not RoboCop, as Detroit isn't even slummy enough for this. This will be the most slummy. Link. |

I've heard for awhile that Die Antwoord would be in this, but didn't think they would have a big role. This is going to be all kinds of crazy and sounds like Blomkamp is going to do something truly different, which I don't think he did with Elysium. Hopefully we get some Antwoord tracks featured on the soundtrack as well. Looks like Blomkamp is finally going to make Yolandi a movie star. |

Please, be more like District 9 and less like Elysium.

I hope so too. D9 was amazing, but Elysium was lackluster, despite an awesome visual design and a great performance by Sharlto. Just from the poster and synopsis, Chappie already sounds like an improvement.

Though I liked Elysium I thought it was underwhelming. I have big hopes for this one too and I think he works better if there are no big name stars.

Elysium had a lot of good ideas, but it the never really lived up to these. It felt like a film where the studio had had a large say over the final cut, but that is just speculation. For example there were created some truly amazing production designs that were never used.
