Default What Is Your "Demo Disc?"

I haven't seen any "official" thread for this (surprisingly), but thought it was an interesting topic.

What are your guys' and gals' go-to movies/discs to show off your home theater setups?

I currently use The Dark Knight Rises and TRON: Legacy, since both of those movies tend to have a lot of presence and good surround activity, outside of their amazing picture quality. I used The Wizard of Oz to sell my parents on upgrading to an HDTV a few years ago.

Great topic, now I know this might be an unusual choice, but for me it would be Basic Instinct for the club scene. I derive more joy from Blu-Rays re the audio output rather than the visual. When this tune kicks in (link provided below ) it is absolutely awesome.

For a complete surround sound and visual demonstration I love Tron Legacy the Enter the Grid scene all the way to Disc Wars.....

Disclaimer : I take no responsibility for damaged equipment if played at excessive volumes.....

You can thank me later for the Sh!t eating grin on your face!!

The clips below are just to give you a point of reference. Rent the movie if you want to hear it in its DTS glory!!!

Enter the Grid....

Disc Wars.......

theres been a few of these threads over the years, but theyre always interesting to see what eveyone uses.

for 2-ch music The Empire Strikes back: The Imperial March from this following CD, the tympani strikes are awesome, if your system can reproduce them. otherwise turn your subwoofer on.
http://www.amazon.com/Star-Tracks-Ku.../dp/B000FTHBPI

for movies theres a lot of scenes that are very active, but a few that i like are as follows:

casino royale, when bond is at the miami airport and the plane increases power to avoid landing on the cop cars, the whole house shakes, i work next to an air force base, and it sounds pretty damn real to when C5s and F16s fly 100 ft above our building.

hulk, the sonic cannons at the university.

tron scenes mentioned above.

saving private ryan, beach assault. also, band of brothers or the pacific, nothing like bullets and bombs all around you.

For ultimate bass demo I throw on War of the Worlds pod emergence scene or the movie Pulse server room scene. For picture and sound, I throw on Oblivion, it has gorgeous picture and sound you can crank all the way up and it sounds fantastic.

Terminator Salvation may be the loudest soundtrack I've ever heard.
There's a scene half way through that begins at a gas station with a giant robot and a huge explosion that leads to a chase with motorcycles and ends up on a bridge with jets. Audibly devastating!
That's my scene of choice to demo my system.

I really need to pop that into my player tomorrow and check it out. I actually haven't watched that movie since I got my surround sound.

For audio: the first 14 minutes of Master and Commander.
The creaking wood and lapping waves put you right on the ship...
and then the cannon fire and splintering decks make you wish you hadn't been put there!

Currently it's The Hulk and Dark Knight but I think Oblivion could work its way in there now. I still need to see Master and Commander though.
