It might be better if you had a specific model number; someone familiar with the specific TV might be able to tell you more about "Original" mode.
That said, "Just Scan" is pretty much always the most correct option. It shouldn't be squishing the image at all (if anything is smooshed it'd be the other modes). It will make the bars seem bigger on scope titles but that's because you're seeing more image all around, including on the sides where there's more actual picture. And of course for 1.78:1 movies you're getting more on all sides. You're right about it being sharper too; it maps the pixels from the video signal exactly to the display's, giving you the maximum possible resolution per inch. The 16:9 mode is "blowing up" the image artificially. |
