Default Sidney Poitier on Blu-ray - The Official Thread

They call him Mister Tibbs!

Sidney Poitier is undeniably one of the most important actors in the history of Hollywood. He was the first African American actor to win an Oscar and starred in some groundbreaking movies. Thankfully, some of his work can be viewed on Blu-ray with more surely on the way. The following will be a list of those available and those scheduled for a release. Feel free to also use this thread to discuss and compare the current releases of his movies and let us know if you find out there's a new movie being released in the near future, to help keep the list below up to date.

Before the list starts, here's how it works:

If there's no flag next to the title of the movie, it means it has been released in America and possibly other countries as well around the world. If there is a flag next to it, it has been released in that country and perhaps a few other ones, but not in America. At the moment, the following Sidney Poitier movies has been released in and/or outside of North America on Blu-ray:

Paris Blues (1961)

Review

The Slender Thread (1965)

Review

The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965)

Review

Duel at Diablo (1966)

Review

In the Heat of the Night (1967)

Review

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967)

To Sir, With Love (1967)

Review

They Call Me Mister Tibbs! (1970) - Coming from Kino Lorber on May 12th

The Organization (1971) - Coming from Kino Lorber on May 12th

Sneakers (1992)

Review

The Jackal (1998)

Review

Director:

Stir Crazy (1980)

I would love to upgrade my DVD copy of Lillies of the Field. Hopefully someone will release this gem of a film soon.

Yeah those two would be great to complete the trilogy. I wonder what our chances or on seeing those on Blu-ray. I believe it's the first film trilogy with a lead character played by an African American actor, so it's an important trilogy as far as Hollywood history is concerned.

This needs to be updated - They Call Me Mister Tibbs and the Organization are coming from Kino Lorber, and Guess Who's Coming To Dinner is being released in North America by Twilight Time.

Props to Julie Kirgo and Nick Redman for the Twilight Time Sidney love. Three titles and counting. I enjoyed seeing Lilies for the first time recently.
