Default ABC's "The Inhumans" (Season 1)

DISNEY|ABC, IMAX AND MARVEL TELEVISION FORM INNOVATIVE PRODUCTION, MARKETING AND DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT FOR
‘MARVEL’S THE INHUMANS,’ A NEW MARVEL TELEVISION & ABC STUDIOS TV SERIES SET FOR ABC

Version of first two episodes of new ABC series to premiere exclusively in IMAX® theatres for two-week window in late Summer 2017 prior to network run

IMAX Corp. (NYSE: IMAX), Marvel Television, a unit of Marvel Entertainment, and Disney|ABC Television Group today announced an innovative agreement to exclusively premiere the new ABC series “Marvel’s The Inhumans” in IMAX commercial theatres, marking the first time a live-action television series has debuted in this manner.

Under the agreement, a version of the first two episodes of Marvel Television’s new series “Marvel’s The Inhumans” – produced in conjunction with ABC Studios and filmed entirely with IMAX digital cameras – will run worldwide exclusively in IMAX for two weeks at the beginning of September 2017. ABC plans to then premiere the weekly series in fall, with additional exclusive content that can only be seen on the network.

The Inhumans, a race of superhumans with diverse and singularly unique powers, were first introduced in Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965. Since that time, they have grown in prominence and become some of the most popular and iconic characters in the Marvel Universe. “Marvel’s The Inhumans” will explore the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family.

ABC, IMAX and Marvel Television also intend to work together to create a joint marketing and promotion plan for the series across their proprietary media platforms – which would be the first such cross-platform marketing launch of a television series. Today’s agreement also marks IMAX’s first time as a financing participant in a TV pilot and series.

“This unprecedented alliance represents a bold, innovative approach to launching great TV content for a worldwide audience,” said Ben Sherwood, co-chairman, Disney Media Networks and president, Disney|ABC Television Group. “It highlights Disney|ABC’s unrelenting commitment to finding new and creative ways to showcasing our very best programming and increasing global engagement and reach.”

“This first-of-its-kind multi-platform production, distribution and marketing agreement brings together Marvel Television’s unique brand of entertainment, ABC’s unparalleled audience and IMAX’s brand and global fanboy demographic,” said IMAX CEO, Rich Gelfond. “It also takes our decades-long relationship with The Walt Disney Company to a whole new level, jointly breaking new ground in the industry. We are confident our exhibition partners will be excited to work with us on this innovative launch of a series across the IMAX network.”

“We’re happy to see this unique deal come together, working with our partners,” said Dan Buckley, President, Marvel Television, Publishing & Brand. “In an ever-changing world of distribution and consumption, it’s very exciting to be part of a groundbreaking initiative that takes us to the forefront of this evolution.”

This deal also provides audiences with high-quality, compelling entertainment options during what have traditionally been lulls in the summer blockbuster season. These IMAX audiences also tend to have high engagement and positive response to comic book fare.

Aw lame. Wanted to see the royal family on the big screen with properly done makeup and CGI. If anything, I wish it was on Netflix instead with higher profile directors and actors.

well as a poster above said it its a real shame they choose this way to kill the movie, but I guess this is the best we are going to get. I was hoping an Inhumans movie would literally force them to acknowledge both the movie and tv universes as one, but I guess it was not meant to be.

I've been far less then impressed with ABCs additions to the MCU so I'm not all that interested in this. It could work as a miniseries I guess, but this really should've gotten canned outright.

I didn't anticipate this turn of events coming. But I look forward to seeing what transpires. The budget might be a problem, but hey, it's only 8 episodes. A tv show might help flesh out these characters more, but not all film fans watch the television or Netflix properties, so they'd miss out.

Cast update: Maximus

Quote:
‘Marvel’s Inhumans’: ‘Game Of Thrones’ Alum To Star As Maximus In ABC Series

Game of Thrones alum Iwan Rheon has been cast in a lead role of Maximus in ABC’s live-action series Marvel’s Inhumans.

Marvel’s Inhumans, which has a straight-to-series order for next fall, will explore the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family. In the series, Maximus is a clever and charming Inhuman who is fiercely devoted to the people of Attilan, especially his brother, the King – though he harbors an intense desire to wear the crown himself.

“Iwan’s ability to be charming, roguish and still completely unexpectedly dangerous were all the different sides we needed to bring the character to life,” said Jeph Loeb, Head of Marvel Television and executive producer of Inhumans. “We’re thrilled to have him on board.”

As previously announced, the first two episodes of the ABC series, on which Scott Buck serves as executive producer and showrunner, will premiere exclusively in Imax theaters for a two-week window in September, prior to the network run.

“Maximus is a complex character, Buck said. “Likable, charming, tragic and villainous all in the same moment, and I’m very excited to have someone of Iwan’s considerable talent.”

Marvel’s Inhumans, which follows a race of superhumans with diverse and singularly unique powers, were introduced in Marvel Comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1965. Since that time, they have grown in prominence and become some of the most popular and iconic characters in the Marvel Universe.

Marvel’s Inhumans is executive produced by Buck, Loeb and Jim Chory. Roel Reine will direct the first two episodes. The series is co-produced by Marvel Television and ABC Studios.

Rheon played Ramsay for four seasons on HBO’s Game of Thrones. His other credits include the role of Ash Weston on Vicious and Simon Bellamy on Misfits. Rheon is repped by UTA, Principal Entertainment LA and Curtis Brown.

I'd completely forgotten they were still doing this. It would be nice if they somehow connected the current generation of Inhumans like Daisy and Elena, to characters from the upcoming show. Maybe even do some flashbacks next year, saying that Jaiying (Daisy's mother) was descended from the royal line.

Rheon is an awesome choice for the role of Maximus. He's insane but also weirdly charming. Like he could kill you or sweep you off your feet... which one will it be today? Marvel definitely made a good move going with the fancast on this one!

That would be the opposite of awesome. Agents of SHIELD dropped the ball on the Inhumans big time. They're so unlike the Inhumans in every way that it makes my head hurt. The worst part/best part is that NONE of the Inhumans on AOS were actually Inhumans in the comics. A couple got retconned in the books after they debuted on the show, but other than Lash (who they butched and turned into an in-name-only villain) none were even Inhumans.

The best thing they could do is keep it a one-way street. AOS can acknowledge The Inhumans, but The Inhumans deals with its own shit. Not unlike the relationship between the movies and shows already.

The Inhumans was supposed to take place in the past though right? So technically The Inhumans wouldn't be able to deal with any AoS stuff, but AoS could talk about The Inhumans like they do Peggy Carter.

However, I don't want them to do any sort of cross pollination with the two shows, The (Real) Inhumans have nothing to do with what's on AoS now, as you said. Just keep them separate like would have been if it stayed a movie where they acknowledge nothing on AoS but AoS has passing references. Any deeper involvement would be bad.

The show isn't taking place in the past from anything I've heard (and in the comics they are very much a part of current events as well). Odds are that Attilan will start out on the moon and the city will crash down to Earth and end up in the tropics for humans to discover their existence by the 8th episode.

Regardless thought, I'm with you in firmly stating that I don't want any cross-pollination. Let them do their own things.

Marvel's big goal since the first Iron Man was one huge, interconnected universe. As such, they can't have SHIELD and the Inhumans (past or present) ignore each other. X-Men notwithstanding, all these characters exist in a shared world. Any refusal to acknowledge their existence would only hurt the whole thing.

Crossover and acknowledgement are two different things. And the movies refuse to even casually mention the events of ANY of the series, so that whole "it's all connected" thing is pretty flat already.
