Sangam (Confluence) is a 1964 Bollywood Romance film written by Inder Raj Anand, produced and directed by Raj Kapoor. The film stars Vyjayanthimala in the lead role opposite Raj Kapoor and Rajendra Kumar with Iftekhar, Raj Mehra, Nana Palsikar, Lalita Pawar, Achala Sachdev and Hari Shivdasani appearing in supporting roles.Sangam was Raj Kapoor's first colour film, distinguished by its technicolor and epic length (even by Bollywood standards). It is also considered the Magnum Opus or best work of Raj Kapoor. It became a hit in India and is considered a classic today. One of the features of the film that became widely used later on in Bollywood is the use of foreign locales for on-location shooting, such as Venice, Paris, and Switzerland. This started the Bollywood trend of shooting songs sequences abroad (primarily in Switzerland), against the background of "exotic" landscapes.Overseas, the film released in the Soviet Union in 1964 and Turkey in 1968, as well as Bulgaria, Greece and Hungary Director Dasari Narayana Rao remade the film in Telugu and Kannada languages as Swapna (1981).

Do NOT buy this. It is the only way to get the message to these jokers at Shamearoo that altering of aspect ratio is unacceptable and of course that god awful logo watermark.
PS: Personally, I don't buy Shamearoo blu-rays as a rule and won't do so until they stop with the stupid watermark. As for buying a Blu-ray with a chopped picture, is out of the question. Period. |

I was thinking the same thing. Probably a misprint, but maybe more likely it is cropped to 16:9 and then squashed to 2.35.1. This film looks bad in the cropped 16:9 version on YouTube. There is no relief in the frame - I honestly can't imagine anyone wanting to crop even further. Waiting for screen shots (with fingers crossed).

Skimmed through it last night. A little soft and some inconsistency. But not bad for a 1960s movie. The only issue is its cropping. It was one of the highest grossing movies of all times. That’s probably the reason for its BR release. One man's crap is another man's pleasure.

If it is 229 min THEN IT'S 3 min cut out of 1974 version of 232 min. 1964 version was 238 min Really embarrassed that my very first post here and I goofed. Goof-up happened because I had in my head that my VHS is full version (1974 version though) and that orig run time was 238 min (1964 orig release). When I get my copy, I will report back with the 3 min discrepancy from 1974 version. ------------------------- rajkapoor, the screen shots you posted show inferior colors like the YRF DVD while Shemaroo DVD colors were much more vibrant. I think they will release this Uncut Version on DVD as well (they released for MNJ, and I am happy with Uncut MNJ DVD as that was 4:3 and in correct AR), if so.. I would prefer to buy Uncut DVD of Sangam.
Hey, where is Shemaroo watermark on these Blu-ray screenshots? Am I dreaming? ![]() |
