United Kingdom Life on Mars (UK) Blu-ray

Anyone know if Life on Mars being released in the UK will be region-free? I am really looking forward to picking it up if it is.

Thanks!

Default life on mars

just a word of caution

life on mars series 1-2 come packaged with 8 episodes on one disk this also includes extras at the moment i am very reluctant to purchase these disks.
for fear these will be heavily compressed add in the fact that it was filmed
using super16 a lower quality film i myself will wait for a proper review of the
disks before i purchase i might be wrong these might turn out to be very good
but these disks are being distributed by kudos film and not the BBC.

would love to hear opinions from anyone when they get there purchases

I got my copies this morning.

There are two discs per set and is no doubt HD very grainy but the colour is all there.

Great sets worth £13.93 at ASDA Entertainment.

Will these work in a Region-A player? Is there any indication on the packaging or are you using these in a Region-A player? If you know, it would be much appreciated! Thanks for your review!

Got mine this morning. Sadly for me it just wasn't worth the upgrade. Apart from a few moments of rich color and texture, the grain on each episode is unbearable.

That plus side is that they've provided quite a rich Dolby TrueHD track for this release that is noticeably sharper and more prominent than the Dolby 5.1 track on the DVD.

But picture wise Series 1 has left me wanting. I doubt Series 2 will look any better.

I am an odd one but I adore grain, it feels very filmy to me, there is a good amount of detail and colour.

I was aww struck at season 2 episode where Gene and Sam are on a double decker looking over a hammered to death man smashed into a now bloody window, looked amazing and almost iconic of the series itself.

It's not that I dislike grain... far from it. A Filmic looking picture I have no problem with, But I've only seen three episodes of season 1 and I am yet to see anything in this transfer that doesn't look like they've just taken the DVD image and stretched it so as to accommodate a 1080p screen.

Very unimpressed, I'd been really looking forward to this release aswell .

Checked Season 1 and its region free. Episodes play fine on my Region A player, but the extras don't work.

In America they just started a new show by the same name.
Is this british version what it's based on?
How many seasons are there and how many episodes per season ?
Also is there a movie and was it in theaters ???

Yes, the U.S. show is based on this. there were only 2 seasons in the U.K. , and I think there were 8 or 9 episodes per season.

I still can't find any details of extras on any on-line store. Are the behind the scenes documentries from the DVDs carried over? I never got the boxsets on DVD, rented from Amazon instead, so I'd be quite happy to get these on Blu if the extras are on there still.

Thanks for checking the region. I just ordered these. One question though, if the episodes work fine, why wouldn't the extras. Are they on a separate disk with one disk region-locked and one not? Just doesn't quite make sense...

Thanks for checking on this!

They are on the same disk, but I imagine its because they aren't in HD, so encoded as 576i, rather than US friendly 480i.
