Steven Spielberg is famously reluctant to let his Universal movies out on any new format. I think he wants the bugs of the format to be ironed out and for it to have put a reasonably sized dent in the consumer base. There's no point releasing ET amid a whirlwind of publicity if there's nobody out there to buy it. I'm not I agree with this philosophy but there you go. It was ages until any of them appeared on DVD.
Don't hold your breath for ET or Jaws or Jurassic Park or Schindler's List or the rest. We'll probably get The Indiana Jones trilogy soon (Paramount/Lucasfilm), and Close Encounters is obviously out already (Columbia). The Universal ones... hmmmm.... Well said. I agree. E.T. will make it to Blu someday. Too much money to be made for Universal to not release it on Blu.

I'm trying to remember if it was said that the 2-version release back in 2002 was the last time the original would be put out, or if it was just the last and only time it'd be available on DVD... I'm hoping the latter.
