the only screwdriver i could find small enough was a set of watch/jewelry screwdrivers with very skinny handles that didnt provide enough leverage or grip to work easily, all i know was it was a real pain gettin them out

When I started up the hard drive on mine, it just asked to reformat it, and that was all. That's what the instructions said too.
I wonder why you ended up having to do an additional step?

and thats what i was expecting to happen, so i was worried when it didnt work that way, but as fas as i can tell from a quick internet search, its just "occasionally" that will happen, but no real explanation, i didnt look too hard because downloading a copy of the firmware to my external HD worked fine and didnt take very long

Are you getting that error every time you check your trophies? Or did it just happen once?
It's likely to only mean that your internet went down.
Which hard drive model did you end up installing, btw?

it only happened on the initial sync after the HD swap, it doesnt seem to be effecting the use of the system at this point, but marine mike suggested power cycling all of my data storage devices to see if that takes care of it, so im going to try that before looking any further into how to fix that error, it doesnt seem to be too big a problem
and i installed a Western Digital 320GB HD
