I went to 2 nearby DTs today, each of which got 4-6 boxes. I only spotted 2 (new to me) Blurays: Super Miss and Broken Halos. There were also several DVDs I'd never seen before, mostly Echo Bridge, Questar and MGM. Nothing like the 1-2 dozen boxes at least 1 VT and MI store got.

I have the same questions. There were quite a few MGM DVDs all having the same DT-specific (September wave) UPC and none of them listed the aspect ratio (i.e. widescreen 16x9 anamorphic) nor sound format (like DD 5.1 or 2.0) as prior MGM DVDs did. Has anyone opened any of these DT MGM DVDs to confirm if they are the same widescreen transfers/discs as the previous MGM releases with real UPCs?

I sure hope these are not old repackaged pan & scan DVDs MGM couldn't get rid of, so they sold them to DT and put new artwork purposefully leaving off the aspect ratio to trick us. I'm not saying they are, but when any movie doesn't list aspect ratio/sound info, I immediately get suspicious someone is trying to hide pan & scan. IIRC, MVD DVDs don't list it either.

I know we've all debated this before, and I don't think anyone is sure, but my memory is a couple people said this new artwork gets printed in the DT warehouses and that studios are not actually pressing new discs specifically to be sold to DT at $1 because that would be a money loser. IIRC, I thought people have said that even a large batch of DVDs costs at least $1 per unit to make, including the packaging.
