I don't mind the SSD I get for my PS5 being overkill at this point. As was mentioned, it's future proofing coming in at a premium. But just because a cheaper, slower SSD works fine on games released already doesn't mean they can handle the ones the come out in 5+ years seamlessly.

I'm not the kind of person that constantly updates my tech, and I try not to spend hundreds of $ at a time on anything that can avoid it. But in this case I would be (unfortunately) spending almost the equivalent to the cost of a PS5 on an SSD for one because I don't want to think about it or upgrade it any time soon. And with Amazon gift cards saved up over the years, I'm actually looking at spending only $300 on a 2TB overkill drive with 3rd party heatsink that, if I feel like it, I can put in my laptop later. Still a lot of money but I'm looking at it like I won't need to spend that money again in a very long time.
