In the USA, ATSC 3.0 uses AC-4 as the audio standard which outputs as Dolby Atmos configuration.

I remember when MPEG2 audio was going to be the DVD standard in Europe, except they couldn't get it to work correctly. They ended up going with the "optional" AC-3 for the majority of audio tracks there. I also remember when VP9 was going to bury HEVC in the video world. Didn't happen.
