Normally that would be bad news for the 3D version, but in that version the darkness isn't even remotely as, well, dark.
The 3D is an awful lot of fun, on top of a movie that is itself almost the very definition of old-fashioned fun.

That sounds like a nice theater. Cinemark, at least the one I go to, also does a great job making night time scenes look brighter and easy to watch in 3D.
I agree, fun 3D and a fun movie in general.
