Frankly I was very disappointed with JVC tech support. Bottomline was that they(JVC) weren't responsible for any HDMI handshake problems according to them. That's after they made me to send the thing 3 times back and forth, twice @ my cost. It was "other" maker's fault that the receiver couldn't handle the signal. JVC was built according to spec and if any device couldn't connect ot JVC that that device was not according to the spec. Even though other receivers and my TV handled the same inputs perfectly.
AFAIK 411 has the same chipset. So, if you need HDMI I'd stay away from those JVCs.

But how can this be? If the signal goes thru HDMI, it shouldnt have any issues with handshake etc. right?

I cant find the Sony SDRG-710 over the internet, are you sure you gave the right model number? Because the price looks really good.
BTW, the receiver must have at least 1 HDMI input and 1 HDMI output. So if it doesnt have HDMI out, its not worth buying, Maybe that is why the Sony is so cheap?
