I just found out about home mode on sony tv's. I guess it turns down the power level 30%. If you go into setup mode it will ask you if you want home or retail/shop mode. retail/shop mode turns the tv back to full power. I read that it was something the EU wanted to make tv's more power efficient. its like i got a brand new tv.

Digging up an old thread, I own a Bravia KDL60W630B and it's very difficult to find recommended calibration for this TV. For those with a Bravia, what do you use for movies? I'm always flip flopping on certain settings, recently I went from warm 1 temp to neutral. I also enjoy live color on... I think I'm in the minority.

I've got a question about my Sony TV, ever since yesterday when I hit the home button to go to any app it says Wi-Fi has no internet access, says that I'm connected to a Network that does not have internet access."
I checked my internet that I have and it's connected and working. What can I do in order to fix it? |

Obligatory preface: every TV and viewing environment is different. These settings worked for me, but may not work for you.
Calibrated settings for my 49 inch Sony X900F, done 3 years ago by an ISF professional. I'm not sure he would want his name mentioned, but he is well known and well respected in the field. These are daytime settings; I never watch TV in the dark. They apply (mostly) for both SDR and HDR. Picture Mode: Custom Brightness: 14 (Max for HDR) Contrast: 95 Gamma: -1 (0 for HDR) Black Level: 50 Auto Local Dimming: Medium X-tended Dynamic Range: Off (High for HDR) Color: 52 Color Temperature: Expert 1 Advanced Color Temperature: All Gains at Max, All Bias at 0 Color Gamma Adjustment Points 1: -9, -8, -3 2: -1, -2, 0 3: -2, -2, -1 4: -3, -3, -2 5: -1, -2, -2 6: -1, -2, -1 7: -2, -2, -3 8: -1, -2, -4 9: -1, -2, -6 10: 0, -1, -5 Clarity Sharpness: 50 Reality Creation: Manual, Resolution: 20 Smooth Gradation: Low Motion Custom, Smoothness: 1 Cinemotion: Off Video Options: All Auto Display Area at +1 to turn off overscan. If a setting is not mentioned, it is off/auto/0, as appropriate. Measurements after calibration: SDR Gamma: 2.3 RGB Balance: much better; not completely flat, but close Color Temperature: 6556K DelataE 2000: Avg. 0.31 DEICTCP 240: 0.24 Max fL: 65 (10% window); about 220 nits Color Gamut DeltaE: Avg. 0.9 Percent709 uv: 96.9 For HDR: Both EOTF and Luminance track slightly higher than normal, but it's for noncritical viewing in a bright room. Looks great to me. DEICTCP 240: Avg. 0.4 Max cdm2: 794.3 (10% window) PercentP3 uv: 93 Some random stuff he said about the Tv: The upscaling was "very good." The difference in bright highlight detail between Custom and Cinema Pro modes was "tiny," so small that it may as well not exist. I was surprised that he did not use the Clearness 1 setting, but he didn't like how it reacted with his motion tests. In any case, I'm happy with how it looks with just Smoothness 1. Sony X800M2 player is connected via Yamaha YAS-108 soundbar. Settings for the player: Bravia Mode: Off HDR Output: Auto Dolby Vision Output: Off (I never use it anyway) Output Video Resolution: Auto 4K Upscale Setting: Off YCbCr / RGB (HDMI): RGB HDMI Deep Color Output: Auto When playing a disc, under Picture Quality Mode, use "Direct." I've been experimenting with different settings, in conjunction with the Spears & Munsil HD Benchmark disc, across all different types of content...streaming, DVD, BD, and 4K HD. Although I never watch TV in complete darkness, I was looking for something more appropriate to lower light conditions, or when I have a headache, or when I just want a movie/show to have a more natural appearance. My goal was 2.2 Gamma and 150 - 200 nits (for SDR; I don't own any equipment for measuring this). I settled on:
Picture Mode: Custom Brightness: 8 (Max for HDR) Contrast: 90 Gamma: 0 (for both SDR and HDR) Auto Local Dimming: Medium X-tended Dynamic Range: Off (High for HDR) Color: 50 Color Temperature: Expert 1 Advanced Color Temperature / Gamma Adjustment: Same as before Clarity Sharpness: 50 Reality Creation: Off Smooth Gradation: Low Motion Off Cinemotion: High (anything not mentioned is the same as before) I think I acheived my goal; I'm pleased with how it looks. A question for any calibrators or A/V enthusiasts out there: given the changes I've made, would the previous Gamma adjustments been thrown off? Would it be worth having them calibrated again? The set has also received two or three updates since 2021. |
