How close are we to 2 million?

Over a month ago Sony said that they were at 1.2 million movies sold. I estimated that May sales were about 500k worldwide. June has been solid, so how close are we you think. Do you think Sony will announce it when they reach the milestone.

are you talking about ps3 sells? From what i have heard its up to 3.4 million. IF thats whats your talking about.

Gotta be close. I'm sure the BDA will take that oportunity to rub it in HD Dud's face. Next big titles The Patriot and Untouchables ,both of which I'll be picking up , will surely push it past that amount.

It would be interesting to see how many copies of 300 sell on Blu-ray as opposed to HD-DVD. I am sure it will probably be something like what happend with The Departed.

I'm hoping the spread gets wider by a good amount. Both of these movies are big titles to have for both HD formats, and since they are coming out about 5 months apart, 300 might be a nice gauge of further adoption of Blu-ray. It also helps that 300 is probably the perfect title for the PS3 demographic.

It seems like information for disc sales in Japan has been mostly non-existant and while Europe has been better from what I've seen, it doesn't seem like we gotten much info for their either. How did you estimate disc sales for May?

There was one week in there where hd dvd sold 75k, blu-ray won the week by i think 60:40, i then figured the blu total. it was a little above 100k, since it was the pirates week, i shaved a little off of the other three, then figured that japan, aussie, european sales had to sell a tad over 100k for the month combined, which is roughly 100k. its the best way i could figure out. still kind of a crude method.

Based on the wording that said 75k "movies", it looks like they counted 3 for each Matrix sale (although still 1 for each Planet Earth sale even though there aren't any movies in there). If that was the first week then I think the Matrix box sets sold something like 13600. That would be an extra 27200 before figuring the 60:40. Which would put Blu-ray at close to 75k for that week.

I dont have a clue about how close, I do know that I've put in almost 90 BD worth. I also do know that I will go broke if they keep bringing so many good movies to Blu-Ray.
