United Kingdom The Girl Who Knew Too Much (1963) La ragazza che sapeva troppo

First, I'm sure there is a thread for this title somewhere, but I cannot find it. I even tried using Google. So please feel free to merge this in with the original thread.

I was wondering if anyone has had an issue playing this title? I have a region free Oppo UDP-203, but this disc behaves in a manner I've never seen with another disc:

The Oppo UDP-203 doesn't recognize the Blu-ray Disc. The player attempts to play the disc but is unable to. It loads, stops, and then reverts back to the player's main screen as if there is no disc present. The DVDs are recognized however.

I suppose it is possible that I didn't have my region switched properly when I tried it, but typically, there is some splash-screen warning of region incompatibility; so I found this behavior odd, and thought I would as here.

Thanks!

Maybe you have a faulty disc. Have you tried it on another player?

The Arrow release has been OOP for quite a long time now, as are all the other Bava titles they released, they released a boxset not long before their rights elapsed.

ONLY the ones in the boxset are OOP.

Both Arrow and Kino lost their rights or let them lapse. According to a post by the Kino Insider, they decided to do so, because the rights-holders wanted too much money to re-new.

The rights-holders to the majority of the Bava titles have done new 4K transfers of all of them and have been shopping them around, but so far it looks like the only release based on any of the new transfers, was a French 4K UHD of Black Sabbath and perhaps the new German 4K UHD release of Planet of the Vampires (though the latter may also come from a different rights-holder).

There is a rather new French Blu-ray release from last year available on amazon.fr. However, according to DVDCompare, it looks like there are no English subtitles for the Italian version, only Italian and French dubs. The American version is also included with its English dub, so there is at least that.

I have to add (a warning to the ones interested) that the French transfer is way inferior to the Arrow, though, as it's been digitally de-grained and zoomed in (I directly compared the caps). So I'd avoid it.

Just a note so no one gets confused because I almost did , Stay away from (Sidonis Calysta) french label . But (Le chat qui fume) french label does great work and wish I knew about the sold out Black Sabbath 4k , Now they only have the blu-ray in stock .

Anyway . Can't find a decent price on Evil Eye/ The Girl Who Knew Too Much 63 Kino or Arrow , I'll take the Kino for the better artwork cover if I had a choice . Could of had that for $10 when it was in stock . Didn't know they both didn't re-new the rights . Hopefully Le chat qui fume (aka smoking cat ) Label will release a 4k of Evil eye and Black Sunday .

The Arrows have reversible art that negates the differences between the two. The Arrows are generally better to have but they are region locked to B as the Kino are region locked to A. The only tricky one to my knowledge is Black Sabbath where the US has better framing but the source has bad color and the UK has better color but is framed poorly.

It's a sin not to have BLOOD AND BLACK LACE in 4K.

Just saying that the Arrow blu-ray, which is thus far the best looking in terms of picture quality (framing controversy aside), is based off a 2K restoration.

I wish I knew. Apparently, the copyright holder is asking for an unreasonable sum for the rights to this and several other Mario Bava films.

Well maybe they should, Blood & Black Lace is one of the most cinematic movies anyone ever shot.
