USA Mario Bava's The Girl Who Knew Too Much (The Evil Eye) coming Early 2015 from Kino

Right on the heels of Arrow UK's announcement, Kino has revealed that they too will be releasing Mario Bava's The Girl Who Knew Too Much (1963) on Blu-ray, as well as the English version "The Evil Eye". It's planned for Early 2015.

Quote:
Generally considered the first real giallo film, Mario Bava's stylish thriller stars Leticia Roman as Nora, who travels to Rome to visit her sick aunt. The aunt dies that night, and Nora ends up witnessing a murder. The police and kindly Dr. Bassi (John Saxon) don't believe her, since there is no body, so she goes to stay with her aunt's friends, the Cravens. Along the way, there are several more murders tied to a decade-long string of killings of victims chosen in alphabetical order by surname. The surprising ending is worth staying around for, as is an amusing supporting performance by Valentina Cortese. Bava would go on to further codify many of the giallo genre's conventions in Sei Donne per l'Assassino the following year.

Hopefully putting both the Italian and American versions in this release shows that Kino recognizes they need to compete with Arrow and MoC, as I'd prefer buying from them instead of having to go outside of region A.

Oh damn, The Evil Eye! Great news. I've been very slow to upgrade my Bavas to Blu-ray (not a one yet, ) but this (and the Black Sunday/Black Sabbath AIP double feature) is an absolute buy for me.

Unfortunately that Black Sunday/Sabbath AIP set has been cancelled due to rights issues presumably with Sabbath. Black Sunday's AIP release will be next year.

See! Always something with these Bava discs (to be fair usually it's been a combination of price and being relatively content with the DVDs), looks like I'll need to divert that money to getting on that Arrow disc of Black Sabbath (...when it is convenient ) as hearing Karloff's performance was the main incentive there. I really need to get on these Bava titles in general though, and hope nothing happens with The Evil Eye.

Shame there are no Bava Boxes for Blu-ray, I was spoiled by those.

Suppose I may wait and see how it turns out, but I'm more likely to just import the Arrow BD since it comes out months sooner. Been dying to see the movie again and didn't want to resort to watching the crummy Anchor Bay DVD, so was happy to see Arrow announce it.

Yeah, I'm personally getting the Arrow release for sure, as it has some extras that might not be on the Kino release and typically Arrows releases are superior to Kino's.. But still, I'm glad there will be a US option for that that aren't region free.

Now would be a good time as Zavvi currently has it for £7.99 (around $15) and they ship (very cheaply) to the States.

Scheduled from Kino for sometime in March (IT'S MAY, MY MISTAKE) although an exact date hasn't been announced yet. Will be on Blu and DVD and contain both The Evil Eye and The Girl Who Knew Too Much.

I'm not sure how I messed up the date but I did. May is the correct month.

Just wanted to bump this thread to make sure people knew about it -- sorry about the error.

Watched the original Italian version on the kino disc last night and I noticed some terrible banding issues throughout any dimly lit scene. And this film has plenty. It was very distracting at times.

This site gives the Kino and Arrow releases the same 3.5 video rating. One of the user reviews gave the Arrow release a 4.5 rating and said they didn't notice any banding.

Anyone else want to vouch for the Arrow release?

I'd get the Arrow release, which is part of their current direct shop sale
