So, with The Raid 2 slowly (sadly) disappearing from theaters, and on-set reports for Expendables 3 begin popping up, those streams cross to have people start focusing their attention on the (infamous) announcement of a remake of The Raid. EX3 director Patrick Hughes is the one in charge of taking up the daunting task of remaking the film, having this to say, via Joblo.com

http://www.joblo.com/movie-news/excl...-expendables-3 So, if it starts in September... I'm assuming Sony might be trying to aim for a mid-August release next year, to match the timing of when an Expendables film would normally come out... in other words, another series of action films with large groups of soldiers ![]() On that note, it sounds like it'll be taking place in a dilapidated Mexican apartment complex this time if they're "going over the border". No mention of a cast yet, but he dodges questions about confirming either of the Hemsworth brothers or Scott Adkins. I can take Chris Hemsworth seriously in an action film, but Liam just makes me go "meh"... although he did a respectable job in Expendables 2. Then again, he was a sniper, and didn't do any close quarter combat. Personally, the Rama-based character needs to be someone who has that unassuming almost naïve look, but can switch gears when ready for battle. Trying to think of actors who can pull that off, and Aaron Taylor Johnson (Kick Ass) gives off that vibe. I'd rather take him over Liam Hemsworth. People keep saying Adkins should play this role, but Adkins always looks more natural as a villain... wouldn't mind him taking up the Mad Dog role. Also, Jason Statham is another name thrown around, and I could see him in the more seasoned role of the character based on Jaka. Hey, that means he and Adkins can have a REAL fight, rather than that rushed crap in Expendables 2 ![]() Overall, I love the two original films, so any expansion of the franchise catches my attention. Hell, for all we know, this "remake" could actually take place in the same universe... hey, The Office pulled it off when Michael Scott and David Brent met ![]() |

Highly doubt they could match the martial arts action so I don't think they should remake it. Also, Dredd was basically the same story. I think they should just start their own thing with a DEA SWAT team, so there won't be any direct comparisons

Didn't see a US thread for Raid 2, so posting this here:
Loved the intense action in The Raid 2. The girl with the two hammers and the guy with the bat, along with the bad guy with the hooks, holy cow. Then put the awesomely talented martial artist Iko Uwais kicking all kinds of @ss non stop through the 2nd half of the movie especially. Though the movie starts off pretty slow and requires subtitle reading for 99% of the film; which can be good since we get to hear the original actors' voices, I did enjoy the conflict between the Father and the son destined to take over as ruler, along with Iko (who plays as Rama) going undercover to try to side with the evil son to gain access to take down the evil empire. One of the most kick@ss martial arts films I've seen in awhile, and a good storyline about how far some will go for power. The fight with the hook man in the kitchen was epic and lasted 5 minutes non stop easily. Awesome x10. The US theatrical run is for the most part over in most theaters I'm guessing. Also a fan of The Raid. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Raid_2:_Berandal ON TOPIC: A Hollywood remake of The Raid? I guess it's possible, but IMO unnecessary as most people who are fans of martial arts in the first place won't need to see a Hollywood version of the movie to appreciate the awesome, bloody fight scenes in The Raid or The Raid 2. Thought I don't get the point why they're doing it beyond running out of ideas or trying to pull in mainstream audiences if possible, hopefully they'll be able to pull off some awesome action scenes to make this remake worth the effort. Even so, if it looks entertaining with great martial arts and action, I'd consider seeing it. I wonder if it can top the original film. I'll have to see how they approach this remake. |
