Always here for more Cassavetes! Hope Minnie and Moskowitz isn’t too far behind!

This made my day! And I love that they included the infamous Dick Cavett interview.

This announcement came as a genuine surprise!

Never seen a Cassavetes film, so I'll probably get the box set and eventually get this (or maybe the opposite- is this a good starting point?).

This one's probably not a good starting point. A Woman Under the Influence from the boxed set might be a better bet.

I’m a huge Cassavetes fan, but of his non-Hollywood films this is my least favorite. I’m not even going to get this and I have almost every Cassavetes movie out on blu-ray. The one film missing, which I still really want is Minnie and Mokowitz.

^^I get that, but M+M is my least favourite. Husbands is too long, but it has some really great scenes.

I'll probably upgrade.

Yeah, I’ve been kind of torn commenting about this film because I don’t want to mislead anyone. That being said, I do love all the films in the Criterion Cassavetes box set, but I’m not a fan of this one. I’ve seen it a couple of times - it’s not terrible, but it just doesn’t ring true for me the way so many of the other Cassavetes films do. That’s just my opinion. Clearly there’s a lot of people who like this film, so I would recommend a little bit of caution at best. And of course that’s prudent with any opinion.

I’d say the boxset is better. You can see him finding his voice. A Woman Under The Influence is a lot of people’s favorites and introduction. My first Cassavetes was Opening Night and it’s still my favorite. The whole set is great though.

This is my favorite Cassavetes. With Faces coming a close second. This has been high on my hopes list for awhile.

I think it probably perfectly captures what it's like to be around sad drunk middle aged men. I saw it once years ago based on a recommendation from a mate. I was able to get through it once, but I think it's too boring and amounts to too little for me to sit through a second time. I can enjoy character-driven movies that follow antiheroes, but this one just didn't do it for me.

Based on the comments on this site, there seems to be a lot of love for it.

Husbands was sorely missing from Criterion's box-set so I will upgrade. I've always found
Cassavettes' films crass, tedious and overlong, yet I feel compelled to watch. I think his
best film might be his first, Shadows (1958). Watching it makes me want to grab a camera
and go out and shoot something. I wish the original 16mm version from 1957, before he
reshot it with different actors, was not being suppressed by his estate. The one I enjoyed
the most in theaters was his most formulaic, Gloria (1980).

Besides Minnie & Mosk, I'm really hoping for and think this release is puts out hope that Gloria might get a Criterion since both were Twilight Time discs. Plus, the kids should see the original Leon (The Professional).

Where are you getting that Husbands was a Twilight Time disc? Are you thinking Husbands and Wives?

Oh yeah—I had it mixed up in my head for some reason.

Well both are Sony/Columbia so I’ll go with that connection instead and still hope for a nice Gloria release

Haven't watched the film yet, but did watch the special feature of the three leads on the Dick Cavett show. While it was a mess, it still had me laughing. On live TV drunk and smoking and just having a good time. Don't think I've ever seen anything like it.
