Default I Am Legend 2

sequel is coming

https://deadline.com/2022/03/i-am-le...ie-1234971302/

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros. is really upping the stakes to its I Am Legend franchise to a stratospheric level and bringing back for the next chapter, not just original star Will Smith, but he’ll be joined by Black Panther actor Michael B. Jordan in what will rep the duo’s first big movie together as stars and producers. Talk about two big stars getting together, between Smith and Jordan combined, their movies have grossed a massive $12.3 billion at the box office.

Plot details, of course, are being kept under wraps.

This only makes sense if it's a prequel or the alternate ending is canon.

Is Francis Lawrence busy at the moment? I wouldn't mind him returning to direct it.

If the latter is the case, I wonder if they'll release a "Special Edition" with the alternate cut worked in.

Otherwise it's bizarre choice, to hope that viewers A, own the movie and didn't just see it in theaters, and B, took the time to open special features to see the real ending.

Or, who knows, maybe the sequel opens with a scene recapping and being like "So you thought it happened like this, but actually it happened like this."

Mildly interested. I'll keep it on my radar.

It's been so long, and the original isn't really a film people still talk about, that they can just do whatever and it'll be fine. They'll just re release the special edition version with that edit and just go from there. People won't be chomping at the but to uphold the original theatrical cut as some masterpiece that can't be tampered with.

Presumably you mean theatrically? Because the blu-ray already has both cuts on it.

As for a sequel, A) Did it really need one? & B) 15 years later, was anyone exactly clamoring for one? Aside from the imagination-free execs at WB?

Maybe they could take a cut in their salaries to hire somebody that can do good CGI effects this time….

I, quite frankly, would have preferred a new reimaging of the original novel. Something more visceral and true to its core.

Indeed. Having seen some of the original actors-with-prosthetics creature footage, it's always been inexplicable to me why they felt the need to replace them with rubbish CGI monsters.

Like the man once said, "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should...'

I don't think so. Last thing he did was Red Sparrow back in 2018.

Edit: Seems he has a Netflix movies out this year.

Oh, man. Wouldn't that be something? It's my absolute favorite dystopian novel, and nothing would make me happier than a more faithful adaptation of the source material. Unfortunately, it would have to be a slow burn of a movie, and the studio is not going to go for something like that. Still, a person can dream.
