Default Question about assigning a PS3 Blu-Ray remote from one system to another

Okay, so here's the deal. I currently have the 80GB PS3 system with PS2 compatibility (this was from the Motorstorm bundle) which I've had for almost 2 years.

Not to go into too much boring detail, but when I first got the PS3, it was mainly for Blu-Ray movies. But I've been using it for gaming even more now, and since it's an older model with the compatibility, I've been wanting to get a separate Blu-Ray player for a while to take the extra wear off of this system (plus, I actually have a small SDTV on a cart next to my HDTV... while I use the HDTV when only doing one or the other, sometimes I like to watch a movie on the HDTV while gaming on the SDTV at the same time... which is hard to do when wanting to play a PS3 game and watch a BD movie).

I recently got a free $75 Visa Gift card at work, and decided to get the Slim PS3 for the Blu-Ray player (since it will only cost me $225 of my own money, and I was already considering getting another Dual Shock controller for my current system anyway, which would have been about $50), as opposed to a stand alone., since the PS3 is still overall one of the best Blu-Ray players out there. I've already placed an order on Amazon for it.

So, this is my concern. I currently have the 2 controllers (an older sixaxis and a Dual Shock 3) and a Blu-Ray remote assigned to my current system.

When the new one arrives, I want to assign that new controller to my older system, and assign my existing BD remote to the new slim system.

Now, If I assign the BD remote to the new system, will that UNassociate it with the old one? Both systems will be sitting side by side on the same shelf, and I don't want it turning them both on. I know that the manual states that if I assign a new BD remote to a system, any previous remote will be knocked out, but I don't have a second one (If I have to, I can take my old system to my mom's house, where they have a PS3 as a BD player, and assign their remote to it just to solve this issue, but I'd rather not do that if I don't have to).

Also, will assigning the new Dual Shock controller from the Slim system to my older 80GB system UNassociate it with the slim system? If not, is there a way to do so (this could be more of a problem, as assigning a new controller doesn't knock out the old ones like with the BD remote, so I really don't want one controller turning on 2 systems).

Any help with this would be appreciated!

Good question, I'd imagine the remote will do it itself (like the PS3 controllers do), but if it doesn't you can always go to your old Ps3 and manually take the remote off.
With bluetooth I don't believe a slave (remote) can ever be assigned to 2 masters (PS3 system) at once so I'm 90% sure it'll unassign itself from the old one.

You can't register a single BlueTooth device to 2 PS3s at the same time. As you register to one PS3 it will unregister the other one. That is true also for the SixAxis remote.

Thanks for the help! One quick question, while it seems this won't be a concern, how would I manually remove the remote from the system? I was actually trying to search for a way to do that on the PS3 menu, but couldn't find that option.

They will disassociate. For the game controllers you need to plug them in to with a USB cable to synchronize to the new system.

Been awhile .. but for the remote control their is a specific setup process via the PS3 that requires holding keys on the control to associate it with that system.

I think it's under BD Devices in the Settings menu. I'd have to check though.

I wanted to also know this as I am planning to purchase the PS3 Slim. So I have to buy an additional bluetooth remote? So if you have two PS3, then you need two different bluetooth remote. You cannot use one bluetooth remote for two PS3, correct?

Not unless you want to continually re-sync them .. which would mean turning the PS3 on by the game controller first etc.. kind of defeats the purpose. I'd wait until they go on sale..I got both ours for (I think) $20 each when they came out.

you can, but not at the same time, if one is on the main TV and the other in a bedroom and you often go from one to the other during the day, then you are probably better off getting a second one, but if you have two places and spend a few weekends and your vacation there then you could be OK with just one. It is a matter of convenience vs $
