Default 11.6 million Xbox 360s sold in the last 19 months are faulty.

"Microsoft has admitted that every one of the 11.6 million Xbox 360 consoles sold in the past 19 months suffers from a design flaw that could cause the device to fail. "

Ridiculously bad.

I remember the first Xbox was a hell of a good machine for the most part. What went wrong here?

I guess part of the answer is something most of us knew all along: They rushed these damned things out so they could be first and beat Sony by a year.

Sounds nice on paper, but now I guess it's time to pay the piper for a rush job.

I would say probably because they rushed it. They wanted to be the first one to get out the next gen system. It was first announced at E3 in may then released in november.

I don't blame them, some defects can be hard to find. I dropped my first Xbox 360 off a 60" TV and still had no problems with it. I only ran into problems when I hadn't used it for a long time and wanted to sell it. I ended up paying to have it replaced (it was out of warranty, day 1 console), but I won't have to worry about that. I will be getting my $$$ back, and the guy I sold the console to ended up with a brand new one.

It all worked out in the end, as I upgraded to the Xbox 360 Elite model.

Take another look at that article.

MS is basically admitting that the ENTIRE PRODUCT LINE is flawed, and potentially in a fatal manner.

I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous and there's no excuse for it. Maybe they shouldn't have rushed the 360 out like they did and this wouldn't have happened.

Now it's going to cost them needless amounts of money and time. And that's good news for Sony and for Nintendo all the way.

I, too, wonder if any lemon laws are going to come into play here.

The 360 has made history as the first piece of $hit game system with major 3rd party support (thanks to blood money) !!!!

Well whatever happens in the end, I only need to have my console working for Halo 3 in September. Other than that, I barely use it at the moment. I'm too pre-occupied with Blu-ray and it's wonders.

They wanted to beat Sony instead of serving their customers properly...that's why the 360 was in reality an xbox 1.5. An incremental upgrade to what it could have been. Your right - the first one was very good.

Wow, that's a biased article.

The 'admission' that all the units are defective, is that they extended the warranty...

Default "Microsoft admits ALL Xbox 360’s are faulty"

http://www.lazygamer.co.za/xbox-360/...0s-are-faulty/

Quote:
Not Good, it is being reported that Robbie Bach admitted to the media in a conference call that all Xbox 360’s have a design fault which may cause them to fail.

That would be every single one of them, so that little white box in your lounge that hasn’t given you a day of trouble is really just a ticking time bomb…

It might not fail but the chances are that it will within it’s first two years of life. Thankfully Microsoft has now increased the warranty to 3 years so you are covered but you have to ask how this was possible. They really should have tested it much better.

Robbie Bach stated that this design flaw only surfaced recently but who can really believe that. We have been hearing and reporting about breaking consoles for the last 18 months. They really should have picked this up earlier.

The same recently that coincided with his share dump?

He only sold 6 million dollars worth of shares which amounts to a tiny fraction of all the shares he owns. Hardly a share dump.

Does the amount of money really change anything?

If he has 600 million worth of shares(I have no idea of the amount) and sells 6 million dollars worth, than yes that makes a huge difference than if he only had 10 million dollars worth of shares. Executives sell shares all the time.

Robert Bach

Sold: 200,000
Holds: 809,462

He sold off 20% of his holdings. Hardly a tiny fraction.

But the amount doesn't matter. The timing does. Why didn't he wait to resolve the problem in his division before selling?

Gary

Thanks for bringing an accurate picture. 20% is quite significant.

It was really interesting...

I never heard of Robert Bach until we saw the share sale story.

Then he makes these announcements. It is his 15 minutes for sure!
