Default Question about HD DVD player and new Xbox 360s

I just heard that the new 360s (not Elite, Premiums) now have an HDMI port. I have the Best Buy 2 year replacement plan for my 360, so I intend to return my current one for the new one (have to check the side of the box to see if it has HDMI).

But there's one thing I'm worried about. I run 5.1 through an optical cable that plugs into the 360's A/V plug. How will this be possible if it's connected through HDMI?

There's a special adapter that connects to the A/V plug on the back that allows for optical audio.

Thanks, Is the HD DVD add-on good? I heard it has some playback problems.

Yeah I have the PS3 for blu ray too. But HD DVD has some good exclusives that I want. Plus, I thought I'd sell the DVDs I already have on blu ray and pay the difference for the add-on.

Default Don't support HD DVD

Please don't support HD DVD. Buy Blu-ray only and help get this format war done with. The faster it is over, the faster you'll get those HD DVD exclusives on the better technology, Blu-ray.

After hearing about the playback issues, I'll probably do just that.

I'm just not a very patient person, but at the same time I don't wanna support a dying breed.

I have never had a problem playing any movie on the add on. For the price of it you can't beat it. They are also doing the free movie too. You will be waiting a long time for a winner.

The cable comes with the XBOX360's that have HDMI capabilities.

Never had a playback issue on mine. Also there shouldn't be any playback issues on it because it CAN update automatically.

You're renting, right? Because seven of 220 available titles is not a basis for making reliability claims.

Many, many people are having problems on multiple titles. Mainly, it seems, combo discs. On AVS, the poll shows 15% of people with add-ons or standalones are having issues with 300. That's an enormously high number for a mature technology (as HD DVD on DVD form factor is claimed as an advantage to be).

Consider yourself lucky, not representative.

Gary
