Default Playing CD's without the TV being on...

I just tried to play a CD in my Sony BD player (thru my AVR) and for some reason the TV needs to be on for it to work. If I turn the TV off, my BD player turns off too. Is there a way to keep the TV off and play CD's? Thanks for the help.

Do you engage PURE DIRECT mode?

PURE DIRECT mode gives you a better sound when playing music media, and on some (not all) Yamaha units it disengages the video.

Also, what kind of remote are you using? And have you set it up properly for CD mode?

I'm using the Yamaha remote. I haven't really set it up for CD's yet. Could you please walk me thru it, if it's not too much to ask. Thanks.

It's not too much to ask, but I don't use the Yamha remote and have never set it up. I use a Logitech unit and it works like a charm.

Maybe some of the other guys can help you with it later. Besides, I'm off to work in about a half hour or so.

You may have HDMI control setup so that the AVR turns off the Blu Ray player when the HDTV is off.

Look in you AVR manual for HDMI control and try dis-abiling that.

I don't think "Pure Direct" mode is your answer in this case. It's worth learning about too though.

Alright, thanks Brian. Well actually now that I think about it... it would do the same before the AVR. When the BDP was connected directly to the HDTV.

Even though your aren't using a Sony TV, at least according to your sig, try turning "Control for HDMI" to Off in the system settings of the BDP-S360. Refer to page 50 of your manual which will tell you to to refer to page 16. It says it's a Bravia feature but I bet your LG is utilizing it.

Hope this helps.
