No BLU-RAY player currently outputs at 120HZ and no TV accepts 120HZ inputs. Movies are encoded at 1080p/24 and US BLU-RAY players output 24HZ and 60HZ.

I really doubt Pioneer would release a BLU-RAY player that would internally upconvert 24HZ and do a 5:5 pulldown 120HZ output. No 1080P display so far accepts 120HZ signals. The sales man either did not know what he was talking about or he saw a preview of a new beta 3 D BLU-RAY player technology. With a 3D BLU-RAY player there would be a need for higher refresh rates when watching 3D movies if the movie was encoded at a higher refresh rate or used two seperate 60HZ outputs combined into one for a 3D effect. Maybe the consumer electronics show in Jan will show some beta 3D players that require special TV's.

I agree with HDTV1080P - this sounds like a salesman relaying bad information. As far as I know, there are no TV's available to consumers that would actually accept a 120Hz signal even if any players actually provided such a signal. There are displays that will properly accept a 1080p/24 signal and operate at 48Hz, 72Hz, or 120Hz using 2:2, 3:3, or 5:5 "pulldown" (a term that seems oddly out of place under the circumstances), but if you are just talking about Blu-ray players then 120Hz output is currently nonexistent.
