Default Pioneer Blu-Ray Player In-Store

Hey guys I figured i'd give you an update as I haven't posted on here in a long while because we've been crazy busy at work and so i've had little free time to come and browse the forums. We are going to be recieving in the next week a production version of the Pioneer Elite Blu-Ray player and we will be hooking it up to a PRO-FHD1 1080p Pioneer Elite Plasma. So if any of you live in the Monterey Area you should really stop by and check it out. I'll be posting a full review with opinions in the next few weeks for you guys to check out.

This player is still not for sale but will be out in time for the christmas season.

Its in the store now and it looks amazing. Very rich color and looks fantastic fed right to the PRO-FHD1 1080p Pioneer Elite panel. So far we have watched Tears of the Sun on it and the demo disc that pioneer sent along with it. Both looked amazing. Our player because its pre-production only outputs 2 channel pcm no surround sound at all. The player runs fairly warm. The remote is an old clunker. But video and audio quality is superb. color accuracy is very very good as is resolution and overall picture detail.

This is "THE" BD player to get. I just have a feeling that it's going to be head and shoulders above all else. You'll pay for the privledge but you will love it.

I'm sure that excellent plasma has something to do with the great picture. Originally they weren't going to support advanced audio codecs, I wonder if that has changed now that they keep on delaying the damn thing.

I have no clue about the advanced codecs as I have a pre-production player. This player is the one to get simply for the fact that it works basically like a HTPC in that it can stream any plays for sure content to your display just hook it up to your home network and viola you can stream audio, video, and pictures to your hearts content.

I can't even sell the player i have now so there is no chance I'll be sneaking anyone a player for a while but its nice to have it in store and finally get some hands on experience.

When I went to the Pioneer website & looked at the back of the player it looked like it only showed 5.1 analog outputs. Is that the way your unit came in with no 7.1 analog outputs on the back (only 5.1 outputs)? I was hoping it would come with 7.1 analog outputs. I have a 7.1 speaker setup.

The only way to get Dolby True HD on HD-DVD is by using the analog outputs or the HDMI output. Do you know if you will be able to get Dolby True HD & DTS-HD by using the analog outputs as well as the HDMI output? If you use the optical or coax out on my HD-DVD player you get a downmixed audio that shows up as DTS on the receiver. The only way to get the high bitrate audio is the analog outputs or the HDMI whether it be the high bitrate Dolby Digital Plus or the Dolby True HD. Is it the same way for the Blu-Ray player?

When I originally bought my receiver the big selling point was Pioneer would keep it upgradeable with future advances.
I have the Pioneer Elite VSX-59TX that has been upgraded by Pioneer in Long Beach with the firewire input making it a VSX-59TXI. Unfortunately my receiver doesn't have HDMI outputs.

Do you know if Pioneer has any plans where they can add any HDMI inputs to that receiver if they're not going to have the 7.1 analog outputs or do I have to buy a newer Pioneer receiver to have the HDMI inputs required for the Pioneer Blu-Ray player to have 7.1 sound when they finally start doing Blu-Ray Discs with 7.1 sound.

I'd really hate to have to give up that receiver. It does everything & adds another additional cost.

Also do you know if the new Pioneer Blu-Ray Player will do the Dolby True HD Lossless audio & the DTS-HD out of the box or if not if Pioneer will be doing upgrades to add the Dolby True HD & DTS-HD?

Will they be doing upgrades? Is there an ethernet port on the back to do the upgrades or do discs have to be shipped to customers.

Do you know if the Blu-Ray Player will have HDMI 1.3 on it & if not will that be something that will be upgradable in the future & does the receiver have to have HDMI 1.3 on it also to accept the 1.3 from a Blu-Ray player.

Last question. It does play 50 GB Dual layered discs with no upgrades or problems?

Sorry for so many questions. Trust me I'm a Pioneer Elite man for many years & was holding off to buy this player but I want to make sure before I get it that all my questions get answered.

The receiver needs to be HDMI 1.3 compatible in order to take the DTS-HD MA or Dolby TrueHD signal digitally directly from the player where it is decoded in the receiver.
The first receivers to support HDMI 1.3 will probably not be until Q1 2007.

I purchased the Panasonic player for the 7.1 analogues. It is a nice feature and by the sounds of things unique to the Panasonic.

Since our player is merely a pre production i cannot answer many of those questions because our player doesn't have full functionality. Sorry when we get a full functionality player i will answer those questions.

Default Pioneer delayed to December

See the article Pioneer BDP-HD1 Blu-Ray Player Pushed to December. Reportedly the delay is not due to technical issues. If true, if would be interesting to know when in December has been chosen for the new release date. What's Sony doing with their player's release, December 4th?

I went to my local Best Buy (to burn a gift card I've been holding since last Christmas), and was lucky enough to see this player in action. When I went back to the Magnolia section, the guy was calibrating the Pioneer 1080p plasma they had the machine hooked up to. When he was done, the demo was rolling which showed three Fox movies: Walk the Line, Ice Age 2, and a split screen of Kingdom of Heaven (half was at 6Mbps 480i, the other was 18Mbps 1080p - at least that is what the screen said).

I must say, very gorgeous. Made me want to sell my car and buy that plasma. I didn't screw around with it - and the stupid sales men were ignoring me - so I just hung around long enough to watch the demo a few times. It has a flip down panel which goes half way up to conceal some controls. It appears they are still using PC drives with these machines.

They also had a Panny set up, but they weren't using it. Pitty. The regular sales people were very impressed that I had one.

After that, I wandered around the store looking on how to burn the money. I looked at some TVs, and educated a salesman on Blu-ray for about 30 min. Overall a successful trip.

I did notice that our Best Buy in Lexington, Ky. DOES have the Pioneer Elite Blu-Ray player. I will try to take a more in-depth look at it this weekend.
I was surprised to see it there today (11/7), thinking it was delayed until December. The sales guy said they "have a hard time keeping it in stock"....wait a minute, I thought this player got delayed until December?!
At any rate, it was hooked up to a Pio plasma, so it will definitely be worth a look.

1.3 is needed to pass through the undecoded DTS HDMA bitstream. 1.2 is needed for TrueHD, decoded or not.

A receiver with 1.3 will be doing two things:a) stripping the audio from the video and decoding the audio stream if necessary; b) pass through the video to your display devices.
