So I originally bought this Dell PC a year ago. I bought it with 4 GB of RAM and it came with a 32-bit Vista OS. Now I'm on Windows 7 and I'd like to upgrade to 8 GB of RAM. Dell's website is saying I have four slots for RAM but that my maximum amount of RAM is 4000 something. Can anyone help me out here?

it depends on what chipset the motherboard has on it. most support at least 8gb
also check for a bios upgrade, this may help with any problems the board has with addressing more ram. |

Also something to consider is what will you use the extra 4gigs for. There are few applications to truly take advantage of 64-bit quality on a client scale.
This is comming from a custom built computer with 8gigs.. Would it be possible to provide the specs/model/serial number of the computer. This will be easy to find out. |

Well, I'm using some more memory because my computer isn't quite as fast as it should be. It's starting to get slower and slower as the days pass, but that's mostly just in startup time and sometimes with opening applications.
I have a Dell Inspiron 530. Tell me what specs you need and I can provide them. |

The g33 chipset technically can do 8gigs. Although initally dell has 4 gigs limit, there has been alot of bios update which could have fixed this. But its really up in the air. I seen people say it could hold 8gigs. I seen people say it holds 8gigs and the mobo recognizes it but the OS does not(64bit os).
And since the ram isn't cheap(2x2 gig = 70+) i wouldnt risk it. Although if you are still interested make sure you match the ram as close as possible. example DDR2 667 VS DDR2 800 |
