Default Fast BD Player for ~ $100

Looking for a BD player for my new plasma. I won't be gaming on it, so here's the specs I'm looking for:

- Fast load times
- Profile 2.0 at least
- Easy upgrading (either wireless of via ethernet)
- Keep it in the $100-$130 range

Thanks.

My first recommendation would be the OPPO BDP-83 but the problem is that player starts at $499.

My second recommendation would be the Panasonic DMP-BD60. That player has excellent reviews and is rated as one of the best low cost Blu-ray players. The Panasonic DMP-BD60 has medium speed load times. A LG Blu-ray player would be faster loading then the Panasonic but not as good as video processing. Overall the Panasonic DMP-BD60 is ideal if you want excellent video processing with excellent 480i DVD upconvert to 1080p/24.

For around $100 budget I would go with the Panasonic BDP-BD60 that lists for $300 but can be purchased at Amazon for only $129 plus free shipping.

Here is an excellent review to read on the Panasonic DMP-BD60.

Sony S360 or Panasonic BD60. They're not going to be under $100, but you can easily find them for under $150 and they're excellent players.

That's like asking for the performance of a Bently inside of a Pinto. If you want all of the features that you listed, you're going to have to pay more.

I was leaning toward the Panasonic, but I have a Sony receiver, so I assume those would mesh well together.

And Wingman, this isn't 2008 anymore. Finding those features in a BD player, as others have found, isn't a tough go these days.

It is for the price you're talking about.

Being the same brand between a receiver and player makes no difference in playback. The Sony S360 and Panny BD60 are your best bets. JVC makes a quick loading player that sells for $109 at Sams Club, but I'm not sure about the player and haven't read any reviews.

I don't think you should listen to wallmart.com reviewers...they probably have component cables connected which of course will not upconvert DVD's.

I would read the specifications from Pioneer's website.

I don't know that Ive ever heard of ANY Bluray player that does not upscale DVD's?? (but maybe there's one out there? ...Insignia? nope, even that upscales!)

after reading through the first guys review, thats exactly what happened.

Upon first use I did have to manually change the player settings to output at 1080i resulution over the component video out

...The lack of upconverting standard DVDs to hi-def resolutions, and the lack of the auto-resume feature

...yeah, don't listen to that guy. (that's what you did, didn't ya?? )

My bad. I had read it in a couple reviews, including one on Amazon, so I figured that was the case.

And Dsella, because there are a number of choices out there, I figured I'd come to people who may have some experience or knowledge about the topic.

@Wingman, then how come people have recommended 3 or 4 models with the specs I'm looking for? I understand load times won't be super-fast, or as fast as my PS3, but I want to avoid players that take minutes to load some BDs, and some that won't even play some BDs.

Not sure where the negativity is coming from for asking a simple question...

I know, I was only kidding.

If I knew the half of Blu-Ray players, I'd try and help. I just use my PS3 as I am more of a computer/console/cell phone smarts guy.

I went with the Sony S360, as Wally-world was having a sale on it. Some of the online deals were better, but I had a couple pre-paid debit cards I wanted to use, and you can't use multiple cards online. Paid $140, but technically got it for free with the cards. It has generally good reviews, so I bit.
