Default What speakers for my listening style?

I am looking for some speakers to compliment my listening style. I mostly listen to country and bluegrass. I love hearing a strong fiddle and other string instruments. Also I like watching movies and enjoy an enveloping feeling from my speakers.

What would be a good brand or set of speakers that give really strong mids and highs. I'll just get a good sub for my bass.

What would your budget be?

You want a nice detailed speaker. Price will determine recommendations.

I assume you are just looking for a two channel setup. What brands have you been able to demo?

I am either going to go with a 3.1 setup or a 5.1 setup. I have heard definitive technology pro cinema 600 satellite system during an action scene on Transformers. They sounded very good with the bass but the highs didn't seem to come in very well. I also heard a set of polk tsi400 floorstanding speakers. The midbass was awesome but the highs also seemed a bit muted. I heard both of these at bestbuy so I don't know if they didn't have them calibrated right or what the deal was. I didn't get to hear the klipsch, energy or mirage satellite systems I was looking at.

For your budget Polks would give you a solid set-up for a great price especially if you need to budget a sub into the $700 cap. I own the TSI400’s and I actually feel that the mid range is not THAT strong but decent. I love the 400’s overall and they look VERY nice with the piano black finish. You would be able to get the 60’s or 70’s for less however they do look a bit cheaper (IMHO) but will perform pretty much the same as the TSI line. Just to clarify $700 including the sub or NOT including the sub?

I listen to some "Bluegrass" type music...... YMSB/Leftover Salmon/Bela Fleck, etc...... and stringed instruments are "Warm" But either way, you should listen to the advice already given, and go after the most "accurate" speakers you can find....... because when trying to find speakers suited for both music and HT, that will provide you with the best results.......

As far as suggestions, it'd depend on what the budget needs to encompass.....

How do you like your current KEFs?

EDIT:

Sorry.... KLH's.

Just my two cents. Check out the B&W 600's. The 685's or 686's would be in your budget. If you like to hear good fiddle music the clarity and highs on this set will great! I have the 683's for my two channel and the 686's for the surrounds. Good Luck!

But again sound is subjective it is always up to you!

Well I haven't decided if I need a sub yet. I have never had a dedicated sub in my home audio setup. I am very familiar with car audio as I have CDT and JL Audio in my truck. Do you think with any of the speakers mentioned above that I could get away without a dedicated subwoofer for a while. I like my speakers alright, but I know their a lot of speakers out there that sounds a lot better that I can afford.

I saw the price on the B&W's and they are a little out of my price range. I'm sure they sound great but I am looking at something for around 700 maximum for everything. Thanks for the input though.

Someday I will have a dedicated 2 channel music setup with a pair of B & W’s…. I had a pair of PSB B25’s I was hoping to dedicate to a 2 channel setup but I had to sell them (needed new tires for the WRX) Honestly they just blew me away.. Although the price is a bit more than your average bookshelves you really do get what you pay for.

OP- I would try to hit up an home audio store where you can demo a variety to find what YOU like best.

I am just trying to get a price reference. I saw on newegg that I could get the pold CS10 center channel for 100, polk monitor 60 for 130 each, and polk monitor 30 bookshelf for 95 or monitor 40 bookshelf for 129, all with free shipping. Would that be a good deal and then later I could add a PSW10 to it for 100 if I wanted to.

That is a solid set-up. We just want to make sure you explore your options to know what else there is out there.

Axiom's M22s are praised by alot of people for there strong Mid range and highs. I used mine without a sub for the first year and was very happy with them. They run $470 a pair with free shipping and a 30 day trial period.
